There's a point in the game where you talk to Leliana and after a few lines of dialogue, she bursts into a song. Now, the song itself is beautiful, but there's two things that made the whole thing kind of disturbing rather than touching (as I'm sure it's supposed to be).
For one, where are those instrumentals coming from? Since nobody has an instrument, I can only imagine that, from the character's perspective, all you're hearing is her singing, and that would be totally weird without the music behind it. Secondly, both the lip syncing and the overall awkward way she moves around while doing it makes it seem unnatural. I'd chalk that up to an engine limitation, but I've also seen incredibly natural, flowing movement in other games, and even some of Dragon Age's cutscenes.

Dragon Age: Origins is an epic fantasy role-playing game featuring a rich story, personality-driven characters, and tactical, bloody combat. It is considered a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series.
Is anyone else weirded out by Leliana's singing?
That's strange because I saw that today while playing. At first I thought it was extremely awkward, but I really liked the song. What's even stranger is that after she's done singing, the conversation is automatically over and you don't get any approval/disapproval points from it. Just random.
Oh yes. It just looked awkward to me so I didn't enjoy it a whole lot. Maybe because it sort of came out of nowhere so I stared at the screen and thought "Wh-what the? What?!".
@eroticfishcake: Those were my exact words, too. It looks like she's screaming, and the way she rolls her eyes looks like a cross between an orgasm and dying. I don't want to diss Bioware, because I don't think I remember an in-engine rendered scene of someone singing ever looking natural, but still...
It was hilarious to me, because I'd stripped Alistair to give his armour to someone else, and he was standing around in his underwear.
She just pissed me off because I couldn't get her in the sack...........oh yeah and she never sang to me either.
Almost had a spit-take moment of laughter when I read that!" It was hilarious to me, because I'd stripped Alistair to give his armour to someone else, and he was standing around in his underwear. "

Yeah, I totally loved the song, and I probably would have seen it as a heart-wrenching moment if it weren't for the downright creepy animations distracting me.
I remember hearing the music way back from the dev diaries for the game. Her voice is amazing.
" That and the sex scenes are perfect examples of good ideas poorly executed. When it happened it just felt so forced and awkward, which is a shame because it's a good song. "Pretty much sums up my own thoughts.
Only barely related to the topic, but this thread made me go search the DAO soundtrack on youtube, and I found this remix which I thought was pretty sweet. Hopefully it makes up for the awkwardness of the other song.
It looked really awkward
I think it was because of the animations and how the voices sound nothing alike
That being said, great song
It would've been better if it was purely a capella and not given that syrupy reverberation.
But ... yeah, it'll be some years before a non-music game is able to deliver realistic looking singing animation.
