Hopefully I get this for Christmas, and I'm not sure if I've asked this before. I'm thinking about playing as a Mage for my first playthrough because it seems more tactical and more fun than a Warrior, which I'm considering playing as for a second playthrough. I'll be getting it for the 360 by the way. Is mage a good choice?

Who to play as for first playthrough...

I think Mage in the second playthrough might be better since it's harder. It's funner but more difficult since you're not as resilient as the warrior class. Once you level up and get the good spells things should work out fine though.

Depends how much you've played classic RPGs before. If you've played a few then mage is an alright choice, while if this is one of the first times you're playing one warrior is definitely the way to go. I don't know much about how the controls work on a 360 but I'd suspect it would be significantly harder to play a mage class than it would be a warrior.

I started playing this game yesterday and chose to be a Human Rogue. I wanted to be able to open locked doors and chests. I still just fight on the front lines anyway, dual wielding. Tactically i'm not sure what I should be doing with the tools I have. The most i've done is sneak up behind a guy in stealth and attack him, but then generally my guys are too slow to come over so i get a bit of a beatdown before anyone arrives. I'm also too lazy to start trying to figure out how to make traps.
I play on PC, so I find myself pausing the game very frequently, potting nearly every move for every party member. It wouldn't be fun to watch me play, but I find it immensely rewarding to have each fight play out as I intend it to. Having that kind of domination over my opponent feels gooooooooooood. If you set your tank's tactics to taunt regularly or do high threat moves, you shouldn't have trouble keeping your squishy mage out of the fray.
I think it's more to do with the fact that mages end up having so many spells and sustained abilities that it's gets really difficult and crazy trying to keep it all controlled through the tactics men.
This was my first "hardcore" tactical RPG too, and I rolled mage and loved it, I think they have the most versatility: you can DPS, heal, or go arcane warrior and be a competent tank. Plus there are limited mages (two to be exact) for selection as companions, and one (who comes with great healing abilities off the bat) seems to get pissed and leave easily.
Edit: I played on 360 and had no problem playing my mage, just get used the pausing a lot.
