Drebin 893 is an NPC character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Solid Snake can purchase a multitude of weapons and ammo from his store, accessible via the start button menu. Drebin is also a weapons launderer, meaning he can remove ID tags (which prevent Solid Snake from using PMC weapons) for a fee.
In the ending cinema of the game, it is discovered that Drebin, like Meryl's Rat Patrol, was under the command of the Patriots. The Patriots had enlisted Drebin to aid Snake in his mission, but only because they thought that he would assassinate Liquid Snake, hence ending their problems.
In the English version of Metal Gear Solid 4, Drebin 893 is voiced by Khary Payton.
Background and Story
Drebin was born in Uganda and lost his family in a proxy war created by The Patriots. The Lord's Resistance Army kidnapped him and forced him into service as a child soldier. During combat, he received the noticeable scar on his face. After the war ended, The Patriots recruited him for their Drebin program.
In the year 2014, Snake encounters Drebin for the first time in the Middle East. Drebin claims to be an employee at ArmsTech Security and tells him that he will launder Snake's guns and sell him supplies for a price. He also injects Snake with nanomachines that allow him to operate weapons that he purchases while secretly infecting him with a strain of the FOXDIE virus designed to kill Big Mama, Liquid Ocelot, and Big Boss. The new FOXDIE strain also stabilizes the strain that had already infected Snake so that it would not mutate and cause an epidemic.
Snake next encounters Drebin in South America, where he reveals the nature of the Patriots' AI network and the Beauty and the Beast Unit. Drebin later appears in his Stryker IFV to protect Snake and Naomi Hunter from Vamp and the Geckos closing in on their position. He also saves Snake and Meryl Silverburgh from Liquid Ocelot during the Easter Europe mission. Before Snake's final mission on Outer Haven, Drebin offers Snake a significant discount on all of his wares do the a slump in the economy.
Drebin's final appearance is during Meryl and Johnny's wedding. There he reveals his true orders from The Patriots and explains that they did not anticipate their computer system being taken down by Sunny, FOXALIVE, and Naomi. He also says that he and the other Drebins had formed a new business named DREBINS and that they had taken over the gun laundering business.
