The Anime
Duke doesn't appear until the start of the second season of the
Yu-Gi-Oh anime. He opens a game shot in Domino City, and it becomes a rival of
Yugi Mutou's Grandfather's shop.
Joey Wheeler challenges Duke to a games of Duel Monsters in hopes of shutting down Duke's shop. Joey loses, and if forced to become one of Duke's cheering fans while wearing a dog-suit. Yugi challenges Duke next in hopes of freeing Joey from his new position. Duke agrees on two conditions. First, they play
Dungeon Dice Monsters, a game of Duke's own creation And second that if Duke wins Yugi must give up his newly won title of "King of Games" and never play Duel Monsters again. Yugi accepts the terms, and faces off against Duke, all the while fans around the world including Yugi's grandfather watching. Duke's reason for dueling Yugi is to avenge the loss of
Maximillion Pegasus Yugi ultimately turns a losing situation around and defeats Duke. After accepting his loss Duke becomes a friend of Yugi and company. Duke wouldn't appear again until later in the Battle City Tournament where he would protect
Tristan and Serenity from a group of Rare Hunters. He would remain with the rest of the group mainly serving as a cheerleader for Yugi and Joey throughout the rest of the tournament. He would appear in the Virtual World Arc dueling Nebitt with Tristan and Serenity. Even though Tristan lost, Duke and Serenity pulled off the victory. He would also be seen tagging along in the Waking the Dragons Arc and the KC Grand Championship Arcs, but would not play a big role in either.
