    Overview

Based on the popular manga and anime series that goes by the same name, written by Kazuki Takahashi, the majority of these games tell the story of Yugi, a teenager in Japan who finds an ancient Egyptian puzzle that holds within it a mysterious secret. Once put back together and used by Yugi it allows the spirit of a long dead pharaoh to inhabit Yugi's body. This comes in handy when Yugi gets into trouble and has to battle someone to stay alive. The basic premise is that player playing as Yugi or one of his friends uses cards to battle his opponents, with rules and cards based on the official card game.

Some of the Yu-Gi-Oh games alter the rules of the card game. Yu-Gi-Oh Duelists of the Roses differs almost completely from the typical Yu-Gi-Oh games and is more of a board game. Other games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh Reshef of Destruction only slightly alters the card game rules by adding elemental strength and weaknesses.
