I've read that Enslaved was based off this Ancient chinese story called Journey To The West. Dragonball was based off the same writing. At first I didn't really think much of it but then I started to see how similar they were; Monkey being super strong, Goku and Monkey both have a cloud. 
 
One thing that really stood out to me was the "C Corp" boxes which looks a lot like Capsule Corp.

I'm guessing they probably threw in a few obligatory Dragonball references like that just to pay homage to a story using the same story as their story.

They both have a staff.
