Buy this game or I will puppy your family and friends
I just bought it. I'm not necessarily sure why, but if anything I did like the way the game looked (visually) during the quicklook. Nice and grungy and bleak and dull.
I actually bought it a few weeks ago. :)
Its far from the best game I've played this year- but it was pretty enjoyable. :D
A general description of my experience with it so far:
Pros:
- Satisfying RPG/Character development elements
- Servicable Combat
- Mostly consistent difficulty- with one major exception. (Listed in cons)
- Serviceable non-linear level design
Cons:
- Inconsistent AI
- Non-linearity mostly disappears starting at the Mars level.
- Level design also takes a bit of a dip in quality at Mars onwards.
- Clunky Interface
- A hefty difficulty spike at Mars.
- Story is all over the place: involving all sorts of underdeveloped/barely utilized aspects
- Bad translation
- Graphics are well below par.
In short: it's a bit of a flawed experience- definitely not for everyone. But it was all stuff I was able to look past for the combat and character building elements. :)
I liked it well enough to definitely consider doing a second playthrough at some point... Especially since I haven't been able to try the co-op yet. :D

Is it any less unplayably broken/obtuse than the last time I saw it? No?
... Well, it was nice knowing everybody, I guess.
Is it still broken? In my experience no, its not unplayably broken. :)
Insidiously Obtuse? Well... I can't deny that. :P

They might have made some changes to even the difficulty out.
How unbalanced have people been saying the difficulty was? As I mentioned above, the only major spike I encountered was at the Mars level. It was certainly a hefty difficulty spike- but it wasn't insurmountable (Even for my melee-focused build). The difficulty remained around that level after the spike- if anything it actually became a little easier after Mars and never really rose again.

I'll pay you $9 to shut up. Then you can buy three copies of the game, give them to whoever the fuck you want, and everybody's happy.
I'd love to buy it. But the only currency I have right now is 3 lumps of coal and 2 useless coupons.

Okay.
If you've got Coal, people on SPUF are willing to give copies of this game for about 4-5 Coal. I got mine for 3!
I've been waiting for the right time to get this. I doesn't get any better than 75% off and a gift achievement.

It doesn't matter how many times you say it. It won't make it true.@Mr_Skeleton said:

yes it will, I wrote a blog on the subject if you care to peruse it
edit; at least EYE is not horribly racist

@Animasta: @laserbolts: It definitely dosent play better or look better, it definitely has more bugs. Perhaps it has a better plot and is more interesting than Deus Ex. It is not a better game.
I would in fact argue that it does play better, because EYE does not have shitty boss fights, it has a multitude of all valid combat roles (the correct thing in DX was stealth and fuck you if you don't like stealth), it does not have a really really bad ending, it has more weapons, it's faster, you can jump 30 feet in the air
Ah, Lord British! Trying to save Britania once again I see. Where is your Avatar now? Muh ha ha ha ha!

@Animasta: My point is that alot of people really dumb.
such as you, who can't post correctly (edit this is also why you should make sure to post right the first time :)
but seriously, saying EYE is dumber than deus ex is just not true. SR3 is dumber than GTA yes, but EYE is not dumb, it is just unique; I think it's better than deus ex but I know most people would disagree, but meh. EYE was a lot more interesting than DX in a lot of ways, as well as being less... you can tell the EYE team made the game they wanted to fucking make, for better or worse.
@Animasta: I'm not saying the game is dumber, it's actually more complex. It's just an objectively worse game.
And yeah you're right in that it is unique and that's the draw, I had fun in it before I could no longer look past the bugs, the terrible UI, the lack of direction, average graphics, and bad storytelling.
Not to mention the terrible gunplay and even worse melee. There is just a great level of unpolishedness which is why I couldn't recommend anyone buy this game.
E.Y.E. is one of the worst games I've had the unfortunate experience of playing. Even the title is awful. What the fuck is "divine cybermancy"?

Gives me a Last Bronx vibe from the poor translation.
