BoS is a staple of every single Fallout game. Leaving them out would be sacrilege, especially since they're from the west coast  (I think). "

But what do they need those 500 bottle caps for?!  By that point, you've already done every last one of their chores!

This is why they have turrets you can retarget. So when the BOS ask you to run out for some chores, you just kill everyone. Every other factions wants them dead anyway eventually.

I either broke the quest to get them to be allies and killed them on my way out, or died trying and quit at that point.

I did this quest before siding with the NCR, and yes, it's long as fuck. You get some Brotherhood of Steel armour though. It's pretty crappy to start out, but if you took all of the armour off the dead soldiers you found, you can repair it to 100% condition.

I actually stopped playing after I visited the brotherhood of steel. Game just got a little boring when you do the same things over and over.

The only issue i had with that quest was finding the filters in Vault 22.   
 
That was the last quest I did before heading to hoover dam with my mighty unstoppable robot army.
