Despite being described as a "designer drug," Civ 5 has been noticeably from the GOTY buzz...why?
Civ 5 GOTY?
I remember them talking on the latest bombcast that they will be mostly arguing for game that they think will win, not necessarily their favorite games personally. For example, Ryan got deep into Civ V, while Jeff and Brad sort of tried it out but weren't nearly as interested as Ryan was (I forgot what Vinny thought of it). Personally, I think the main contenders this year will be Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Super Mario Galaxy 2.
It wasn't universally loved by the crew, so it's no surprise that it isn't getting a lot of buzz. Like others have said, I'm sure it will either be winner or runner-up for PC GOTY. It will definitely get its time to shine. Even games that the crew doesn't think even have a chance of winning a category get mentioned so that they can at least acknowledge them and explain their reasoning for dismissing them.
" @EdIsCool said:Okay, this was pretty good. Laughed for a good 10 minutes straight." Brad will cave to Ryan and Vinny, it'll get the PC nod. He likes Civ 5,I dont believe he'll fight his corner too hard. "haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha "
Meh Civ5 was fun, but SC2 is MUCH better, i'm probably going to be playing a CIV game once a month for 2-3 months(after the initial time spent when i bought it). SC2 i play everyday, though i try to limit it since i lose concentration after 3-4 games.
However, it does deserve a little more praise, this is probably contradictory, but i do think its much more complex and fluid than ME2(keep in mind i am a pc gamer). I hate how much attention ME2 is getting, sure its good, but the decisions you make actually don't have that much of an impact... they change a few lines, or give you a different cinematic, and on occasion you just skip things, like a character...
Anw point is, CIV5 deserves more praise than ME2(in my opinion of course) but its just has a more niche audience.
" @EdIsCool said:Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!! GO BRAD" Brad will cave to Ryan and Vinny, it'll get the PC nod. He likes Civ 5,I dont believe he'll fight his corner too hard. "haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha "
I think the winner of best PC game is pretty clear.
There can only be one big PC strategy game being considered and that is Starcraft. I love Civ 5 but i think it will be mentioned but not considered.
I like the GB crew but they are WAY too console focused to give a PC only game the GOTY. To be honest I would be surprised if either Civ5 or SC2 was even in the list.
When it comes to those 2 games imho SC2 is just the better game (I own both and enjoyed both) .... but besides an amazing production value and a good story SC2 has
an amazing online mode with Battle.net as a very good platform ... Civ5 just cant stand up to that.
" I think the winner of best PC game is pretty clear. "As long as it at least get an honorable mention I'll be satisfied.
Civ5 is a strong GOTY in my book up until I get balls deep into it and it's so epic and the long journey from a little settlement into a world conquering superpower with twenty giant death robots marching towards the last few independent states and it cannot continue without crashing no matter what I do.
Most recently four hours ago, and before that, just before I hit the bed. It's since been uninstalled.
