Ryan is better. Jeff and Vinny have both done/would do fine. Brad I imagine would suck.
Is Jeff a better host than Ryan?
It's kind of a Batman/Joker kind of relationship.
You feel safe and secure when Batman is around to keep folks in check, but once the Joker runs the show you become intrigued - you want to know more.
What is fueling this crazy stuff? What's going on here?
He has a certain charisma, and he has his own spin on things.
But deep down in your gut, you know you want the Batman back, because you want control.
You want him back to keep folks in check.
When Jeff hosts, we lose Jeff as a side asset where he can make a lot of fun quips and jokes that hosts usually don't feel all that comfortable with making. Because of this, and Ryan's natural ability, I think Ryan is a better host.
Just how the division of labor went as far as I can see, I accept it because Ryan understands basics and pushing things forward. I do not doubt Jeff does too. Individual results may vary. Hell even Vinny did well at hosting something awhile ago, and he can be the distracting 'why' guy, in a sense.

Funny, I was having this exact conversation with one of my friends last night. I think when Jeff hosts, he tends to get more invested and animated in the discussions, which I think is great. Look at the livecast last night for no better proof of that - he was using things being said by other people as a way to springboard into talking about some really interesting stuff. There's something to be said about what Ryan usually does, which is attempt to push the conversation in a direction to have other people talk about it, not use it as his own soapbox, but I was really grooving on what Jeff was doing last night. That said, Jeff also doesn't seem to give a fuck about keeping things in order. And that's great when they want to go off on completely insane tangents (again, last night's fucking hilarious livecast), but not so much when everyone starts talking over one another. They're both good really good hosts. In general I think there's a bit more of a professionalism to Ryan which makes him preferable, but there's an "really smart inmates running the asylum" quality when Jeff hosts that I revel in.

Actually, it's the total opposite. You may not notice it, but Jeff seems a lot more like the business type of person and likes to keep things professional, someone that does what needs to be done and likes to keep topics going that have to do with his job as he's working. Ryan and the rest can go off and talk about other topics that don't even have to do with their job. Just because Jeff can show a more enthusiastic take on news, doesn't make him less professional. If you ever listen to older podcasts, try to notice that when he talks about something other than what he needs to do then and there, he keeps it simple and fast, and when others go on about something else he tries to shorten it by saying something, more often than not. To answer the original question, I think Ryan does a fine job whenever I hear the podcasts.
