Not a fan of the Redbox ad

Not sure if giant bomb is taking "feedback" from subscribers but here we go...

I subscribe to the bombcast on the podcast app on my iPhone. I know I can download the ad-free version somehow manually but it's easier to just do it the automatic, ad-sponsored way. Besides, the ads are usually funny!

That said, I don't like the redbox ad. Reason? There's no special deal in the call to action. No "bomb" code or whatever that gives me 10% off my next whatever. What's the point?

Can you guys drop the Redbox ad for something else?

The point is that they get paid. That is the actual purpose of having ads. You can't expect every single one to give you a special deal.

I'm only pissed that canada had redboxes for a while and the they closed shop!

Never used it anyways, I just use my library when I need my renting fix!

@fitzgerald: Depending on what app you use for your podcasts, you just have to copy the premium URL (and login) and you're good to go like you were using the regular ad supported feed.

As for the ad, an ad is an ad. Doesn't matter if it's got a promo code or not, it does what it needs to. At worst, all you have to do is skip 30 seconds and you're back to the podcast.

There was an episode a couple months back about them talking about ripping off Redbox (they weren't condoning it) and now they have ads for them. Just kinda funny.

I actually feel better knowing that I don't have to actually do anything and gb got paid for the ads time and not some stupid code.

Better than shilling for corrupt as fuck gambling sites.

They just can't win. Offer a Premium ad-free experience, nope, too difficult to bother with. People complain about Draft Kings, so now we have a Redbox ad and people are complaining about that, too.

You're out of touch, i'll take codeless redbox ads over legal-loophole-gambling anyday. It's a relevant service, why should there be a bonus code?

@soulcake: I've never understood the issue that ye have with gambling web sites (I'm assuming you're from the US, apologies if I'm wrong). What's the problem with them?

You have a premium account and this is still a problem? You HAVE THE POWER to not hear the ad but you still chose to listen to that version of the show? The time you took to write this post could've been spent on setting up the premium feed on your device. Incredible.

I live in Europe, I'm going to go start a tread that none of the ads are useful to me because of my geographical location. I DON'T EVEN HAVE REDBOX HERE!!

@fitzgerald - I've said this before on other threads complaining about ads - the bombcast and beastcast sell ad space via Midroll. Midroll sell that space to whoever wants to buy it, giving options like pre-roll, mid-roll and post-roll, how long the campaign will last, etc, etc. If you've a problem with there being Redbox ads or Draft King ads go complain to Midroll.

Also you can ad premium feeds to podcast players to get the premium ad free versions of a podcast automatically, it takes mere seconds to set up.

You must have missed the beastcast where they said to go up to the Redbox and shout offercode "BEASTCAST" at it.

You're allowed to complain about this, but you 100% shouldnt have and it made you look bad by doing so. Not trying to be mean, just a heads up for next time.

Yes, I stood at a redbox shouting beastcast at it. The voice detection thing is kinda broken, but eventually it worked.

The worst part is that they offered us a free 2 day rental every single Thursday (it might have been Tuesday- it's been a while) night, and they still couldn't get people to use their service.

Its not like they can pick and chose what ads they should have. They get offers to do ads, and take them. What a weird thing to complain about.

95% of the offers in podcast ads only work for Americans, so for the rest of us this is the experience had when listening to most podcasts.

Well, person is. I think the overwhelming majority is okay with the Redbox ad. I mean, there is always going to be somebody who has a critique to offer, and if "no free offer code" is the worst there is to say about Redbox, then I think they're doing pretty, pretty good.

Do you have any preferences for their next ad? Which company would you like Giant Bomb to do a partnership with? Would you like your name on the offer code this time? Better let them know now before they do the next podcast and Fitzgerald has a problem with it

Well surely this can't be serious. I mean, whining about ads for stupid reasons is nothing new but this one is a bit much to the point where it feels like satire.

They should add a service where I pay half the premium price and only get ads with special codes.

What's the podcast app you iOS guys are using to download the premium feed automatically?

Obviously they should have ads about MLG, Mtn. Dew and Doritos. That's about as relevant to video games as you can possible get.

The point of those offer codes isn't to give you a deal. The point is to track you and where you are coming from. That's a weird complaint. You do realize that with all the companies that offer a 10%, the discounted price is basically the regular price, since these discounts are pretty much always active and easy to find?

I'm okay with Redbox because as far as I know they aren't legally nebulous like Draft Kings.

I don't own an Iphone but when i listen tot he podcast on my PC i can just add the premium podcast to itunes , and the probgram i use for my phone (samsung kies) can also get the premium podcast directly. I assume iphones use some version of Itunes so i can't believe that there's no way to get the premium podcast on there

Yes exactly. Hearing them do Draft Kings was worse.

I don't get what offer you want on Red Box. It's dirt cheap.
