People were already pushing it by adding multiple images to hentai games. But do we really need to add extremely sexualized or just downright voyeuristic images to the wiki galleries of all characters ?
A couple of months ago I was looking through the Samus Aran gallery for a decent image of a morph ball - her iconic ability. But I had to wade through 300 pieces of "fan art" - most of which had Samus looking like a 10 year with boobs the size of a planet. These images are Samus only in name and are worthless from a usability point of view. They just end up cluttering up the main image galleries, making it ineffectual and hard to use. Today, I was trying to use the Momohime gallery and had to sort through images like the ones below. I'd love to hear the justification behind adding them to the wiki gallery. The funny thing is that these aren't even the worst.
Edit: Somehow this thread has become about carpet banning fan art, which was never my intention. Just be more discerning with what you add to the wiki people.
Stay classy, Giant Bomb!
Seriously, what's the deal with voyeuristic fan art in the wiki?
Edit: Also this has already been setteled according to Jlrm01. A while back he told me that as long as it wasn't openly pornographic, it's ok.
he was even denied to add pictures because some mods disagreed. in the end I think the staff stepped in and said it was ok.

Hit a sensitive spot there or something? I'm just stating my opinion, and the presence of fan art doesn't bother me. But I'd like it better if they weren't there to clutter the images in our wiki.
" @FluxWaveZ: too bad you don't get to lay the law of the land then, or our top image posters wouldn't even bother to post things on the site-.- "A lot of people who have high point scores ONLY post fan art and stuff like that. So they are not technicly even helping the site. Just posting images they have stored on their computers.
" We're no Anime Vice, but I agree that all fan art should be abolished from our wiki pages. Really, they serve no purpose. "I agree. If we are going to have fan art then it should only be visible when searching for it specifically. It shouldn't be mixed in with all the other images. Kids do use this site and every female character page has got an 8 year-old version of the character with their tits falling out. It's pathetic.
" @The_Laughing_Man: I see that. though it's not to say that they doesn't add anything to the site, the same way having in game pictures of "rapelay" is would be considered "helpful" and contribute to the site. "Thats is actual game art. Not something someone drew. That is the main difference.
From the site FAQ:
Fan art is explicitly called out as acceptable. Some of the stuff on the site is really pushing it though.Image upload best practices
Do not submit images with watermarks! Submit high rez images under 1 meg in size whenever possible.
- Images can include box art, screenshots, concept art, fan art, and more. When uploading images, we strongly encourage users to either associate their images with an appropriate gallery, or create a new gallery when necessary.
- Avoid adding images tagged or watermarked with other sites' URLs.
- Nudity is not allowed in the message boards. Hentai or nude images are only allowed in the wiki or the wiki's gallery IF it is official art from the publisher ( So no hentai fan art in the wiki or wiki galleries ). Hentai, unofficial art and unofficial hentai are allowed on profile image galleries.
Also, I demand a fight between Killjoi and Newten. Two mods enter, one mod leaves!
The difference with posting in-game RapeLay pictures with fan art is that the RapeLay pictures are actual products in the game. Stuff that the artists on the actual development team worked on and that can be found by anyone playing the game. It's in-game content. The wiki is supposed to be a great compendium of anything relating to the development of a game. Fan art has nothing to do with the development of a game, unless that fan art was used for the development of that game, which is very rare (or maybe has never happened)." @The_Laughing_Man: I see that. though it's not to say that they doesn't add anything to the site, the same way having in game pictures of "rapelay" is would be considered "helpful" and contribute to the site. so you're against all fan art? great work excluding a great part of the videogame community.
That's not what this site is about, it's about embracing all sides of videogames and collecting them in ONE place. ONE wiki.
" @The_Laughing_Man said:Dont give me that. I never said any of that at all. I am against people loading up their entire collection and hording points." @tiwi said:ahaha. listen to yourself. " @FluxWaveZ: Just look at the Funky Student page "Ah sure, but I somehow don't really associate the fan art with the user written content on the pages. The way it's written just conveys personality and gives it a unique touch compared to another, more official wiki. It's from our community; we're the ones making it that way.
" We're no Anime Vice, but I agree that all fan art should be abolished from our wiki pages. Really, they serve no purpose. "Agreed. What is the purpose of fan art? I was kind of surprised to hear that there IS fan art in the first place. It has nothing to do with the game, and just adds waste to the site, imo. Any sort of "fan art" that isn't "official" in any way, is purely subjective, a person's perception of the game. If thats the case then that opens up the doors to anything being added to images, as long as you can justify that it is your perception of the game.
Fan art has no place on this site.
The rules say it's not okay." ahaha. listen to yourself. So porn in games are ok, but nudity by fans is not? "

It's weird shit like this that keeps Anime Vice the wasteland that it is. You go looking for some decent anime to watch and get confronted with this kind of...
imagery.
" @Levio said:That's only for newly-submitted images by users with less than 1000 points. The gallery you see at the top of the wiki page is just full of images from the whole site related to the character. I'd argue it's about as much part of the "wiki" as the recent forum/blog posts list underneath it is.
Fan art shouldn't be embedded in a wiki article because that's not an official or reputable portrayal of the character, but fan art on the site in general is cool.
