I had never play a Metroid game before but I corrected that last year by beating Metroid Prime and loving it. However, I stil have not beaten a Zelda game before. Even worse, I own 3 of them.

What's your biggest gaming shame?

Edit: I realized most ppl are just gonna say their massive backlog but thats a modern problem in the post steam world so can we exclude that answer?

My ever-growing backlog, including instances where I own complete series of games and have not even started the first one.

Also, owning Panzer Dragoon Saga but only having played about the first hour of it.

Not owning a flight stick, probably. I don't have the money right now but I really love flight and space sims. Sigh.

Probably my age. As a 19-yr old, I've missed out on a lot of important gaming stuff over the decades that I was either too young for or not even born. Yeah, I can go back and play the classics, but I'll always be looking at them in a different light compared to those older than me. I would sooner call the PS3 my favourite console over the SNES, simply because the SNES didn't feature in my childhood or teenage years nearly as much as the previous generation of consoles.

This right here. Including the games I've started but never finished.

@sunbrozak: I wouldn't feel too bad about it if I were you. Most of the old school classics are considered such due to nostalgia. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them feel highly dated due to the iterative nature of game design. If you have an interest by all means go ahead and check out some older games, but don't think it's necessary to be considered a true fan of video games.

I have never played any Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, or Pokémon game. Lest I come off as some sort of Western Games Supremacist, I have also never played any Halo game, WoW (or any MMO, come to think of it), Uncharted, or Gears of War. Or COD since, like, Big Red One.

I owned quackshot for over 15 years and I never finished it. So the other day I did. It was not worth it.

Now it is the over 400 unplayed steam games I have.

I played Prime twice. Both times I became bored and stopped before finishing. I don't understand the intense reverence.

I'm not shameful of having not played any games in particular, cos generally there is a reason I haven't played it. I guess the thing I'm least hasty to admit is the sheer amount of money I've spent on the Rock Band franchise in my lifetime. ~700 songs across 3 games (4 counting Blitz), three different guitar controllers and two drum sets (had the same mic from the day one though). No idea how much that comes to, but it's probably a number I'd hate to see written down.

@pcorb: ok...to not have played 1 or 2 or maybe even 3 of those series is understandable but to not have played any of those...you would have to actively avoid them. are you the master hipster of gaming?

@giantstalker: consider yourself a very charitable man. problem solved.

@ezekiel: oh man that's really too bad. idk i got so immersed in the world...just digging and digging and going deeper down the world. it was all about exploration, a far cry from most of the linear games today. even most of the open world games of today just point you in a direction. only complaint was the sometimes lengthly distances between save points. i rage quit a bunch of times.

I mean, aside from the massive amount of stuff I bought on sale and haven't touched? I consider Baldur's Gate 2 to be one of my favorite games but I've never actually played it to completion. Also I've never beaten A Link to the Past.

@liquiddragon: I think this is a broad answer, but I have a stupid habit of starting a game and then not finishing it or even really playing it that much even if I think it's really awesome. I seem to remember the Bombcrew discussing this burnout on the podcast before, and mentioning that it's usually temporary. But I've had it as a constant annoying companion since senior year of high school, which was six years ago. Examples include Bayonetta; Vanquish; Persona 2; Metroid Prime 2; Final Fantasies IV, VI, IX and XII. Recently I did this with Dragon Age Inquisition until my friend said she wanted me to finish it and get my opinion on the ending. So I death-marched my way through the game's main story, kept awake by coffee and Botchamania until I realized I didn't care enough and just watched the ending via Youtube. I'm currently procrastinating on Shadow Warrior while happily playing the decade and a half old Suikoden 2. What the Hell's wrong with me?

Another reason I think this is a weird fit is because I do this with all types of media, not just games. Bah.

@wraithtek: ppl were pretty hyped for that game and those types of games back then i remember, including myself. but on hindsight, lol absolutely

@poobumbutt: this is a major problem i think in the enthusiast crowd. our interests are wide and our tastes are broad and we wanna keep up with the talk. on top of that, sales are frequent. or should we blame quick looks?

  • Half-life 1 & 2 (some day I'll play them...)
  • FF7 (I've tried 2 or 3 times and it has aged to the point that I just can't play it, and probably never will. Even thought about buying the PC version and just boosting my party to max level but that doesn't even sound like fun)
  • Super Mario 64 (someday, but I always lose steam around 50 stars and want to play something else)
  • Majora's Mask (someday...maybe next month)
  • Wind Waker (I got to the back 1/3 and quit because I didn't want to do fetch quests so FUCK THAT GAME. But someday I'll beat it)

I don't have that many, but I guess the biggest one is that I've never finished a JRPG outside of Pokemon. I got really close in FFIX but I lost my save. I've played half of Earthbound about three times and got about 3/4 through Mario RPG on an emulator before I actually bought the cart and had to start over. It's tough now especially because I play all my games in Japanese.

I suppose my biggest gaming shame would be that I've never owned a Super Nintendo. Was still just a poor kid when that came out and had to make a choice with one console. I went with the Genesis. For some reason, I still haven't picked a SNES up. There's obviously a massive amount of amazing games I'm missing out on, excluding Yoshi's Island. I have played many SNES games on friend's consoles, but never had the full experience.

The newest consoles I own are a used 360 and a Wii that was purchased in 2006. Splitting consoles with my brother was easier before we both moved out to go to college, and I just can't afford one myself. Now we both mostly play PC games.

I like Metroidvania exploration. I just don't find Prime's gameplay that compelling. But my save file says 4 hours, so it wasn't completely boring.

I love hard games, and I'm kind of obsessive when it comes to completing them. I'm not the greatest gamer on earth, but I've polished off some pretty notable toughies--Bayou Billy, Actraiser 2, the original R-Type, Dark Souls, stuff like that--but I totally bitch-quit Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. I beat all the NES originals, so I thought it would be no problem since old school shit is usually harder, but I only made it to the third boss (I think? Some demon bitch that comes in through a window, if I remember right), and she just wasted me again and again and again, so I threw my controller down like a baby and quit. Fuck! I know I can beat that game.

@frankfartmouth: i can't imagine playing the original without the right stick camera control. maybe try NG black? tons of fun and given your taste, i think it would be worth it.

I just finished Metal Gear Solid 4, from a save from 2011.

Although I love Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and it is my favorite game ever, I have never beaten Metal Sonic.

I spent more time on the Green Lantern videogame than I did on Mass Effect 3.

The first thing to come to mind when I heard I was being relocated for an internship from April-June, where I'm working at a hospital, helping people, was "Shit, Mortal Kombat X comes out around then", with no thought of actually improving my life and be a good student.

Not gonna mention the backlog, but there we are.

Well, Majora's Mask would be one, at the time I just found it frustrating, but knowing how much people love that game today, and some even like it more than Ocarina, I reserved the 3DS version and look forward to giving it another chance. Staying on the Zelda bandwagon, as much as I freaking love Wind Waker, I never played Phantom Hourglass, so I want to go back and play that game to completion, but I'll likely skip out on Spirit Tracks since it just doesn't interest me that much. As far as other games are concerned, I've still never played either Saints Row the Third or 4, or Skyrim, despite SR3 and Skyrim being the top 2 Game of the Year competitors of that year for the Bombcast crew, I guess I was just sort of burned out on open world games at that time. Diablo 3 is a more recent one I still haven't played yet, but I just bought Reaper of Souls on PS4 so will get around to it eventually. X-Com: Enemy Unknown and Dark Souls I was turned off on initially knowing how difficult they are, which I know is silly, but I've definitely been thinking about giving them a shot lately. Xenoblade looks amazing, really want to check that out. Lastly, Fire Emblem Awakening (or just the whole Fire Emblem series in general) has always interest me, but for whatever reason I never got around to playing, I have a copy of Awakening that I might dig into later on this year, especially now that a new Fire Emblem has just been announced.

I sold all my childhood consoles. 2 Genesis/Mega Drive's. SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Gamecube. I'm keeping my last gen consoles and games though.

I think Crysis and Borderlands games are garbage. Not a popular opinion but there it is.

Also I still play play plastic instrument games regular, like it's 2007 baby.

Also I think Bionic Commando 2009 is one of the best games of last generation.

Never played a FF game.

Aside from a backlog, because everyone has that, it's probably missing out on later SNES and the entirety of the N64. So I've never played LttP, FFVI, Mario 64, OoT, Majora's Mask, etc. Kind of a glaring hole in my gaming history which started back in the early 80's.

I had a fairly big collection of porn WAD's for Doom back in the 90's.

I haven't gotten around to trying as many MMO's as I'd like, many of which have been closed down before I got around to them (not talking grinding to the max level and doing endgame stuff, but I'm kinda the anti-Dan in that I'd like to have a general idea about what most games were/are about, and would've liked to have played at least a few hours of each and every one, but I didn't like the idea of paying a monthly subscription fee for that, or for that matter I couldn't afford stuff like that until a few years ago).

I only managed to play through the progression for two of the three factions in M.A.G. before the game was shut down last year.

As an opposite example to my "real" one, I've beaten Persona 4 four seperate times. Twice on vanilla and twice on Golden. Also, I've watched the Endurance Run once before and am slowly rewatching it again.

There was a period of time in the first viewing where I was grinding on P4 while watching the ER in the same dungeon. I like that game to an unhealthy degree.

My most played game this past two years have been Euro Truck Simulator.

Thought maybe Elite: Dangerous would knock it off the throne, because of space truckin', but so far it's not looking good. Luckily the year is still young, so anything can happen...
