[Console gamers] Are you playing in HD or SD?
HD. Had a 1080i set when the 360 came out and bought a 46" 1080p set along with my PS3 when that came out.
Got my first HDTV in 2005, been playing PC games in "HD" since like 2003, had a 1280x1024 monitor at first.
I use quotes because the HD term is a bit weird, 1280x1024 is higher resolution than what 99% of current gen console games marketed as HD run at. Only exceptions are the 1080P XBLA and PSN games you get.
The joke, of course, being that a lot of games aren't actually as "HD" as you think they are.
It was around the time that I played Condemned 2 that I decided to replace my s-video TV. That game was very hard to play in SD. Ironically, my TV is only 720P and 8 inches bigger than my 1080P monitor.

HD, though it's "only" 720p.
No one really plays console games higher than 720 anyway.

I'm really not sure what point you think you're making. Sure, some games are under 720p, but there isn't a game on that list that wouldn't look better on an HD set.
Not really sure, I connect my 360 to my widescreen monitor which is ~1300x800 something max via VGA cable. Does that count as HD?
HD. I'm always shocked to hear people are still playing in SD then I remember I got my very first HDTV earlier this year and I'm all like, "oh yeah..."
I'm also playing at 720p on a crappy LG with a TN panel but I'm considering buying a new and better TV in the next couple of years. At the moment it's good enough for me, specially since I play mostly on PC.
HD, though I only made the switch to HDMI in the last year or so. My current TVs can only run in 1080i, but the TV in my dorm's basement totally runs 1080p.
Neither. High resolution (HDMI 1280x1024 on TV, VGA 1280x720 on CRT computer monitor). Progressive and interlaced HD channels creates terrible and laggy post-processing,

1300x800? WHat an odd resolution. Why don't you just pony up $120 and get a 1080p monitor?

Well the ''~'' indicated a ''something like'' and not specifically. 1360x768 to be exact. (you made me have to check, damn you) And I'm not from the states to pony up the $, almost everything here is ridiculously expensive. But my LG E1940 is doing a good job so far. I'd prefer to get a second monitor just so I can use my 360 and PC at the same time.
TV resolution outstripped the console hardware. Back in 2005, 720p was fairly standard and 1080i somewhat less common. 1080p wasn't even considered a real standard until later. So it's no surprise the consoles don't support true HD in the way we think of it now, in 2011. Early on (at least with the 360) there was concerted effort on the part of developers to make games playable in SD, which just makes the user interfaces on those games look ridiculous at HD resolution. Things have changed a bit since then.
I've never played either a 360 or PS3 on an SDTV, but I imagine it sucks. I've done most of my playing on a 65" 1080i rear-projection TV (circa 2005), but more recently have been using a 42" 1080p LCD since the blues on my rear-projection bleed.
I'm expecting the next gen of consoles to be HD-only, and actually take advantage of all those extra pixels. I honestly can't wait.

Indeed, MW3 runs at sub-720p (1024x600) and then gets upscaled
720p on PS3, 480p on Wii. Small 20ish inch TV. I played on my PS3 with an SDTV for about two weeks before getting fed up with being unable to see any text.
I was worried about the Wii games after I switched to the HDTV, but I got a component cable as soon as I switched and frankly I've noticed none of the complaints people have had about the Wii's graphics as of yet on an HDTV. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is still one of the best looking games I have, HD or no.

I'm in a dorm room and I have a small HD TV and yet I still play in SD because I can't be bothered to go out and buy an HDMI cable. Why didn't it come with the PS3?
You can order one on Amazon for like $1.99.
