And what things in particular are getting you as moist as an otter's pocket, or as craggy as a Tibetan sky funeral?

I am personally loving the new progress bars (uploading images, results for polls), AUTOMATIC DROP SHADOWS ON IMAGES, new hyperlink text colouration and that extra special John Vignocchi exploding bomb GIF that happens when you submit a post/do a thing. The new video and podcast pages now look so very fucking fly, and the new avatar portraits are dope too.

Can I say no since I haven't seen it?

Show it!

I'm a bit undecided. It's really different.

Wait, as a member how do I get to see it? I want to see it :(

#7 Posted by Make_Me_Mad (3113 posts) -

@Fattony12000: Just from those images, it seems like there's a lot of wasted space.

Thanks! I tried to get to it through Dave's thread but I kept getting a 500 error.

It looks cool. When will it happen?

I'm still on the old style, too.

#14 Posted by chrismafuchris (1080 posts) -

Seasnake appears to want to show me a mobile site, but it always crashes before it completely loads

#15 Posted by Andorski (5365 posts) -

@Make_Me_Mad: Seems like the same amount of wasted space compared to the current design (assuming that the images posted by @Fattony12000 were taken from a 1920 horizontal pixel sized resolution).

#16 Posted by SMTDante89 (2580 posts) -

Haven't had the chance to see it, keep getting 500 Errors (which I do like, it's pretty funny)

I feel like you can't put a margin anywhere without someone calling it "wasted space". Guess you can't please everyone.

I personally much prefer a design where individual elements have some nice fat margins and room to breath over trying to fit as much as possible before the scroll cutoff. If I were designing it I would probably "waste" even more space.

In my opinion the design strikes a nice balance density-wise.

Sure. But the coming back and forth between the two sites is already confusing my brain.

#19 Edited by Fattony12000 (7558 posts) -

@Make_Me_Mad: Well, I am in full screen mode at 1920x1080 for video recording purposes, so my shots are not exactly taken from the perspective of normal use.

That reminds me...

RESPONSIVE DESIGN! GOTTA GO TEST THAT SHIT OUT NOW!

#20 Posted by mandude (2666 posts) -

I approve. Although everything seems too far to the left.

#21 Posted by VikG (136 posts) -

I really like it so far! Going to test out the video player next & see if there are any changes to the html5 player, there is also an amazing page listed under podcasts!

haven't seen it yet :/

#23 Posted by supertuna (82 posts) -

Looks pretty good, especially the podcast page/player, AND they added NDX. CHOO CHOO!

@Brendan: try removing the "/login/ " from the URL. It worked for me

#24 Posted by supermonkey122 (872 posts) -

How do you see it?

#25 Posted by 9999dmg (132 posts) -

It's a huge improvement. I really like the Polygon.com design, but it seems like they made too many compromises to be a "mobile-first" designed site, it feels like I'm just using a big mobile site in my desktop browser. The new GB seems like it got the responsiveness right, it looks like it was built specifically for the device you are viewing it on, not just for mobile. I'm also really happy that there aren't so many rounded corners.

Only for premium for some stupid reason. It looks ok to me.

@ProfessorEss: I dunno, it looks like there's a good fourth of the page on each side just kinda empty. It looks weird, to me, and kinda ugly. To each their own.

#30 Edited by believer258 (12177 posts) -

I keep getting a 500 error. Probably took it down to work on it a bit or something, I dunno.

EDIT: Nevermind, I erased the "login" part of the URL and now I'm in! And first glance says... it looks pretty good but there's too much white.

#31 Posted by Aaron_G (1617 posts) -

Yeah, its beautiful.

#32 Posted by dungbootle (2428 posts) -

Looks killer!

#33 Posted by Captain_Felafel (1602 posts) -

I love it, but there's a little too much black on the front door for my tastes.

#34 Posted by Demoskinos (15131 posts) -

I'm already at home over there. Love the new design.

#35 Posted by _Zombie_ (1462 posts) -

WHY IS EVERYTHING SO FUCKING BIG. I HATED THAT ABOUT THE CURRENT GB HOMEPAGE WHEN IT CAME OUT AND I HATE IT EVEN MORE WITH THE NEW ONE.

Oh, I just assumed you weren't talking about the horizontal. It's like that so it will fit on as many screen resolutions as possible.

I'm sure the forums and wiki will still scale to fit the users resolution but when designing top tier pages you want to fix the width at a resolution that the majority of users can optimally view and for most designers the iPad's (1 and 2) 1024 is currently "the bar" most are building for.

You should read the "Welcome to the Next New Giant Bomb Beta: Sea Serpent" article.

Now, this website here. You probably browsed around a bit and hopefully you like what you see. Don't panic! You can change back to the dark version of the site up in the header.

I gotta say, it's pretty bitchin.

#40 Edited by Winsord (1299 posts) -

Title font for items on the front page is bigger than I'd like it to be. I'd rather have more items on screen at one time than bigger headers. Not expecting that to be changed though, nor the actual font being used which I don't care for much either, so I'm already fiddling with a style sheet to see if I can get it looking the way I want it. Otherwise though, I like a lot of the design. The big thing for me is that it's still very functional, whereas with a lot of newer sites like Polygon, I tend to feel that they're going purely for style over function.

Edit: Fixed the font sizes. Knocked them down to 18px for headers and 19px for the promo-wheel titles, I'm liking the look a lot better.

Yeah, I figured that out. But now I don't see when I have a new message after someone has quoted me. I'm about to look through that link, though, so I'll see if that says anything about it.

#44 Posted by devilzrule27 (1239 posts) -

Not crazy about it. All the images seem way to big and take up too much space but this seems to be the trend on all video games sites now so I guess whatever. I just watch videos for the most part anyway and I can still do that so, hooray?

#45 Posted by SgtSphynx (1563 posts) -

I keep getting 500 errors when I try to access it, oh well

#46 Posted by captain_clayman (3328 posts) -

Other than the top things on the site being ridiculously large, it's really slick. I like the sticky video thing A LOT.

#47 Posted by Bribo (605 posts) -

What's this about a sea serpent? Is chat dragon leaving Giant Bomb?

#48 Posted by smokeyd123 (334 posts) -

#49 Posted by Ares42 (2794 posts) -

From the pictures posted here I'd say it looks very similar... Not that that's a bad thing. Guess it's more of a behind-the-scenes rework ?
