E3 open to the public?

Was this year's E3 open to the general public? Could anyone buy a ticket and enter? I searched and keep finding conflicting answers. I'm asking because I really want to attend next year's E3.

Nope. It wasn't, and I imagine it never will. The only way to get in still is to be a member of the press, or work for a developer of publisher.

Are you sure? I thought they capped the attendance at 40 000.

Yes, I'm sure. The attendance may have been up from the previous year, but that doesn't mean it's open to the public. That increase was probably due to them not using the invite-only format of previous E3's.

Welcome to the E3 Expo 2009 Attendee Online Registration. Please read the following information carefully before proceeding to the registration form.

  • E3 Expo 2009 is a trade-only event and is not open to the general public.
          No one under age 17 will be admitted, including infants.

  • Prior attendance at E3 Expo does not qualify you to attend the 2009 show. Two forms of current
          industry identification must accompany your application before it will be processed.

  • The Management of E3 Expo 2009 reserves the right to deny any applicant a badge.

  • All attendees must be prepared to show valid government issued photo identification in order to pick up
          their badge and/or badge holder at E3 Expo 2009.

    Pretty sure it isn't open to the public, and you have to be apart of some kind of industry to have the possibility to apply.

    I think it's good this way. Just imagine the madness if EVERYONE could enter... The press wouldn't get anything done.
