GiantBomb GOTY '08 Predictions

The year is almost over, a new year is just around the corner, and everything that gamers do/should care about has been released. The reviews are out, the games have been played, and now it's that time of year when the ever coveted Game of the Year (GOTY) award will be distributed, by the various publications, to those special games that have surpassed all others.

And of course, what could possibly be better than a GOTY special by GiantBomb (cake)? What's that, you say? There IS a GiantBomb GOTY special? Well, how convenient, I was just predicting the winners of GiantBomb's Year-End Awards Extravaganza Spectacular! There are numerous awards up for grab and numerous candidates nominated to be recipients. I might be wrong, here or there, and perhaps everywhere. But I love to predict, nonetheless; if only for the opportunity to rub an "I told you so" in someone's face. With all preface aside, let's begin!:

One of them is telling me it is Grand Theft Auto IV (most likely;) however, the other one is going against the odds and telling me that it is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. I actually predict Burnout Paradise will win Best Multiplayer...

I agree with most of your predictions except, I think the Giantbomb crew will vote:

Best Multiplayer:  (it's a toss up) between Burnout and Left 4 Dead.  I think they might go with Burnout.

GOTY: I have no idea what they will pick, but I think it will either be GTAIV or MGS4 (it says a lot that this is the first MGS game that Ryan and Jeff have actually enjoyed)

No offense, but Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts winning GOTY on that list is laughable. Sure, it's a great next-gen start for a series that has been collecting dust for the past decade or so, but come on! GOTY?! Geez! It definitely was not that great. I mean, they seemed to like it quite a bit, but I really hope they don't choose that game for GOTY. However, complaints aside, the list is definitely solid and looks like it will line up with what the Giant Bomb reviewers choose.

GTAIV is gonna win GOTY- the dudes liked Banjo, but nowhere near the amount it seemed they were hot for GTA.

Most disappointing will probably go to SOCOM for the problems at launch. Alone in the Dark had no hopes or expectations, and was probably always going to be terrible. Where as everyone had quite high hopes for SOCOM.

I highly doubt that Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts will be the best game of the year. And if it is GiantBomb will loose points in my consideration.

Interesting predictions you got there, and some of them seem very valid. Banjo would be cool to see as the GOTY, though it isn't personally mine.  I must disagree with your prediction of PSP and downloadable games.  I don't remember any of the guys recalling Wipeout Pulse on the Podcast, though I may be wrong, so I think they will go with either Space Invaders Extreme or Patapon.  Also, for downloadable game, I think they will give it to Super Street Fighter II blah blah blah, Bionic Commando or maybe even Braid. I think GW2 may be shunned this awards ceremony.

Banjo. There something I didn't expect. But still, it has a very good chance.

Banjo winning for GotY is definitely a true underdog story. It'd be awesome if it won, but I"m betting on GTA of MGS IV. I vote Gears of War 2 but that's because it's the only one I've 'fully experienced'.

I wonder if most of the people on the internet hating on Banjo have ever even played Banjo.

Probably not.

As for best PSP game, I think it would either be Patapon or God of War. Pulse is a brilliant game that definitely does a lot of things right, but Patapon is fuck-all crazy and knows it, and God of War pushes portable graphics to a ridiculous level while keeping storytelling and gameplay fluid and amazing.

As of yesterday's GOTY reveals, I am 13 for 23. Not as good as I hoped, but I did make some pretty wild predictions so I'll say I'm doing alright. One more batch of winners to be revealed....DUN DUN DUN!
