Giantbomb's 2010 Video Feature of the Year: Communities Choice
With the year coming to a close I come to realize that not only has this been a great year in games, but also a great year for everyone's favorite video game website. Giantbomb has gone to great lengths to ensure that their loyal audience are entertained year round and so I created this poll to see what new video features people liked the most. Keep in mind that I've given some thought to the criteria for being represented in the poll.
For one thing it should be a newly introduced video series, thus excluding regular and annual events such as quick looks (with the exception of the...unique Game Room series of quick looks) and coverage at events like E3 and PAX. Both TNT and The Whiskey Media Happy Hour also have to be disqualified unfortunately due to the live nature of the videos. I have a feeling that the results are obvious but I just needed to satisfy my own curiosity.
" @Meteora said:"What happened to TANG, anyways? "WU-TANG was put on hiatus for the busy release schedule. But now, that season is over. They should be bringing it back within a few weeks. "
i think it was canceled with the release of Screened.com
Game Room.
We didn't need a thousand hours of Deadly Premintion to tell us that its a bad game. A thirty minute quick look would have been an infinitely better use of time and would have told us just as much about that piece of shit.
Game Room quick looks aren't just a brief glimpse into the world of Game Room.
They are a brief glimpse into a mind's slow but steady decline into complete insanity.
I chose WU-TANG for density of quality, though the DP ER was great and obviously had the most funny moments. I forget what the HTMAB video(s) were like and might need to go rewatch those and I can't recall everything about Set Phasers for Fun.
Game Room; watching Jeff slowly descend to the depths of hell as he kept pouring dollars into GR whilst the rest of the crew slowly distanced themselves from the whole thing was hilarious; one of my favourite moments was from 10/13/2010: "Ryan giving us double middle fingers can only mean, Brad, that it is time for Game Room", hilarious intro.
" @Mezmero: I guess you're counting the Starcraft 2 stuff as an event, because personally i would vote for the 2 videos that cam out of that as the best thing GB has done this year.
I actually thought about categorizing the Seoul and Liverpool Stuff as "Travel log" or "Road Trip" but I decided against it due to the scarce number of them posted. As fun as those videos are they ultimately amount to Interview segments which are a standard part of any media website. People may point out that the HTMAB videos were few in number as well but it was a significant enough event taking place to at least be considered for this.
It's Deadly Premonition for me! I watched both VJ and BR and then played the game. I also hope they do another.
Deadly Premonition Endurance Run. Always looked forward to getting home from school and watching it.
I sunk my vote for Game Room. It was great to watch. At first so hopeful and "hey this looks pretty rad" to Jeff starting to question why he does this every week. And finally coasting on some strange catharsis where Game Room seems OK again with recent releases but I won't feel bad if it goes away.
I enjoyed Deadly Premonition endurance runs, but watching them back to back was kind of maddening at times. It only was really trying with the ceiling ladies at the art house.
I think if they hadn't to put a hold on WUTANG I'd say that but Jeff's been very consistent churning out the Gameroom Quicklooks.
ER are kinda like Let's Play's which there are tons of, and although no LP out there has the charm of Vinny Caravella, Deadly Premonition was just god-awful and hard to watch. At least the gameroom QLs mixed it up with the awfulness.
" i think it was canceled with the release of Screened.com "Screened launched two months before WUTANG started. They just got busy with other stuff.
I like the Game Room Quick Looks. It's got the insanity of the Deadly Premonition Endurance Runs, but doesn't cause me to exceed my bandwidth and get my Internet connection cut off. It's win-win! But both wins are for me. Jeff loses, of course.
As much as I loved the ER, Game room has been so much better in every way possible. Venetian Blinds is my GOTY.
