Daft Punk (obviously), Animal Collective, The Postal Service (and Dntel), and Miike Snow are all pretty cool stuff to listen to.

@TomA: Give deadmau5 a listen. His stuff isn't heavy trance, but you might enjoy it.

Those are some rather unspecific as well as separate genres - but still, I'd recommend Fluke (especially the 1997 album Risotto, it's awesome), µ-Ziq, Autechre, Fever Ray, Psychic TV (one of the inventors of the acid house genre), Eat Static, Visions of Excess and late 80's/early 90's Clock DVA.

Sabrepulse, Dieselboy, Kaskade, Perfume, J Majik and Teebee are all good. Pretty much anything from the Wipeout games is good too, as someone has already mentioned. I also really love the Ridge Racer 4 soundtrack, so give that a shot if your interested.

A few off the top of my head that are some of my favourites: Marcus Schossow (prog. trance. His album, Outside The Box, is godly), Noisia (mostly DnB, but they have some good electro tracks), Stephan Bodzin (electroish house), Wolfgang Gartner (electro house). (Also, not a huge fan, but The Chemical Brothers, since no one has mentioned them.)

But anyways, only checking out a few specific artists isn't a good way to get to know electronic music (well, for trance and house at least). Usually, the best tunes are made by some of the "smaller" producers that are not mega superstar DJs (like tyDi, Arnej, Anhken, Jochen Miller, Leon Bolier, Wippenberg, DJ Eco, Arty, Mr. Pit, W&W, Gareth Emery and MANY more, I could go on and on), but then again, they are played by the big DJs on radio shows and live sets. So giving radio shows like Global DJ Broadcast, A State of Trance, Tone Diary and BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix a listen is a nice way to find good choons, but also looking around at online stores like audiojelly, beatport etc.

Aphex Twin, like others have said, is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with the genre.  Selected Ambient Works is a good first album.

If you are looking for something a little less intense, musiq (the mu is the greek letter), Boards of Canada, and Ulrich Schnauss do something that is a little more chill/ambient.

Also, I found some good stuff by going to sites like last.fm and pandora and entering "IDM" in the station seed box.  Last.fm has a very good electronica community, you could ask there.

So this is a relatively old track, but I think it's really easy to listen to.

Electronica-wise, Ulrich Schnauss is great if you want to fall asleep. RJD2's instrumental stuff are great. Royksopp and UNKLE are both good but their stuff tends to... vary in style quite a bit. Charlie May is amazing (if you can find his stuff), if not just try out Sasha's Involver or Invol2ver. Moderat's newest album is pretty good. Apparat's Walls is amazing.

It's really interesting to see how intensely varied people's definition of "electronica" is.

It's an amazing electro-disco album, perhaps the best this year.

I'm going to assume the lack of Daft Punk mentions in this thread is because people figure the OP HAS to known of Daft Punk  unless he lives in a cave.

@TomA: It's not really trance or electronic music, but if you like those you might like ambient music in which I would suggest Brian Eno
