fanboyism always turns into blown out hysteria.
Don't ask me, I love arcade sticks, controls are always "serviceable"
This was actually going to be the Gamecube's controller back when it was called the Nintendo Dolphin.
to be honest, it's doesn't look bad
The image says it's just a mockup. There's also this image, which is even less likely to be a real prototype:
The d-pad looked like someone held a lighter up to it and it functioned about as well as a melted d-pad, too.
this is and was a monster.
The Duke is the most comfortable controller I've ever used, but the d-pad and white/black buttons sucked.
My last memory of using a DUKE was playing ninja gaiden on a 7" LCD in the dash of a 1995 camry while hangover. It was the correct level of retardedness to remember that abomination by.
The Duke is the most comfortable controller to hold, but not to actually use.
The Gamecube controller has the best layout for face buttons ever conceived. The rest of the inputs on the controller were terrible though.
"I’ve been a big Microsoft fan ever since the release of their 2001 console and it's controller, Duke. Before that I didn’t really understand any of their work, though I enjoyed their last release of the 1990's, Windows 98..."
The actual king of controllers. Plebeians.
The wire coming out of the bottom was the most infuriating thing ever, it was always in the way.
Xbox 360 gamepad is my fav, probably because I don't give a fuck about d-pads in 2013 or many years before it.
This has got to be a troll post.
it's not
The fact that you call the D-pad perfect makes me really wonder.
That's where I fell off too.
But more power to ya OP.
@squidc00kie: I think you're confusing the Duke with the 360 pad, which was an abomination.
@fortysixandtwo: Sorry no I'm not. I've owned a Duke, an S, and a 360 controller, none of them were any good in my opinion. But that's just me, like what ya like bro.

If nobody else said it, I was going to.
Also, I remember during family get-togethers, we'd play rock-paper-scissors and the loser would get the Duke.
I never had an xbox, but everytime I would use someone else's I remember not being able to reach some of the buttons. I don't think my hands are that small.
this is and was a monster.
That duke could swallow the ps2 whole jesus.
this is and was a monster.
Whoaa, give it another 5 years and we will see a retro xbox console completely integrated in this controller. Including a fully functional disc drive. Mark my words :D
I used to get horrible cramps from playing it at demo booths. Once I realised I'm going to needs my hands and fingers in the medical profession, I just got a PS2.
I love the duke, but not as the best controller. Only having one button per index finger, and 6 on the right thumb was a huge mistake in the Original Xbox controller design. The size though, damn that thing felt great.
this is and was a monster.
The best response.

This.
I remember playing with the Duke in a Rent-A-Center at the tender age of 10 and thinking of the many ways my older brother could bruise and bludgeon me with this thing. So, no, the Controller S was a far superior input device, with the 360 pad besting it and pretty much all other controllers to date.
That Gamecube controller was pretty good. The whole idea of resting your thumb on A and only having to pivot it or move it a tiny amount to hit the other buttons was quite smart. Out of most "modern" controllers that is probably my favourite followed by the Xbox Controller S. I can't stand Dualshocks. Never have liked them.
