I was older than most of you here when I bought my first Gameboy, at the young age of 30. I still remember playing Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure on the long flight from Melbourne to Vancouver with that brick. Good times ....... sniff.
It was easily the greatest handheld that has ever existed, even if you discount Color sales it's sales are still awesome. The DS is hot on it's sales though.

Can you imagine how pissy the Concerned Parents' Union would get if that "you can spend your whole life playing Gameboy" ad aired today? Happy birthday Gameboy! You rocked.
I forgot to mention that I dressed up my freshman as a Gameboy during the 80's day of Freshman-Senior Week in high school. That was awesome. I pasted a big old screenshot of Tetris onto a red posterboard. Unfortunately, it wasn't really 80's :(
It's great that you can still charge 30 bucks for an original Gameboy with Tetris on eBay. I've been thinking of getting one now and again in the last two years.
It'd be stupid, since I can emulate the GameBoy on the DS, but still. It'd be great. It's been a long time since I last had one of these things in my hands.
My first gameboy was actually a Gameboy POCKET. Remember that thing? It was smaller, but still black & white. Mine was blue... but it was stolen from my backpack at school, in the 4th grade, along with my Pokemon Red.
