What would it be?

This is easy for me because there is only one game coming out this year that I want.

Assassin's Creed 3.

#2 Edited by Zacagawea (1577 posts) -

I couldn't.

Seriously, that's way too hard.

#3 Posted by Trains (134 posts) -

@Zacagawea: I'd say you're in the vast majority lol.

#4 Posted by Aetheldod (3495 posts) -

For better or worse Mass Effect 3 hands down ... despite the ending I love the game and the multiplayer has me hoocked as well  , so there.

#5 Posted by grahf14 (40 posts) -

I'd probably take Xenoblade Chronicles.  Distant second would be AC 3.

Diablo III

Bioshock Infinite is what I want to play the most, but I think I'd have to pick Borderlands 2 because that would last me much longer.

I choose Borderlands 2.

#8 Posted by Animasta (14633 posts) -

uh, for the rest of the year? I've pretty much played all the stuff I want to, so I dunno.

#9 Posted by Canteu (2821 posts) -

Diablo 3.

This is a really unfair question on the other games.

#10 Posted by grahf14 (40 posts) -

Ohhh I forgot about Diablo 3.    Yup Diablo 3.

Final Fantasy XIII-2. Seriously. The 75 hours I played of that game I absolutely adored. Its still standing tall as my current front runner for GOTY. Loved the monster collecting and the story was great and it has what I now consider the BEST Final Fantasy villain of all time Caius Ballad. He was brilliantly portrayed by Liam O Brien and I can't wait until they actually release the rest of the single player episodes. Platniumed the game as well. Seriously did everything the game had to offer.

Halo 4; easily.

#13 Posted by PeasantAbuse (5137 posts) -

Probably Max Payne 3 or Diablo 3. Or maybe Halo 4.

I don't know.

Oh wow... ummm... if GTAV actually comes out this year, that. If not, BioShock Infinite? Shit, I don't know... (talking like I'm actually beholden to this decision)

You are making me choose between Lollipop Chainsaw, Sleeping Dogs and Max Payne 3? Fuck you.

Also, heads-up for Binary Domain and Asura's Wrath. These games are awesome.

#21 Posted by Yummylee (21204 posts) -

Resident Evil 6, easy.

#22 Posted by Sooty (8082 posts) -

Yakuza 5 if that comes out in Japan this year, unlikely, but I'm not ruling it out just yet.

#23 Edited by Jeust (10451 posts) -

From the games yet to release, Lollipop Chainsaw. For the whole year, I say Catherine. I was antecipating with great expectations, and it delivers in everything I was looking for.

Tekken Tag 2

Atelier Meruru.

I can just steal a copy of every other game coming out from friends, but I'm fairly sure I'll be one of the only people getting Meruru. And if someone like happened to get it, then my pick would be Record of Agarest War 2, cause I -know- she's not getting that one. :P

YES! It was just so good. The characters, he story, the gameplay, everything was amazing. Not perfect, but hey, maybe in Binary Domain 2.

I just recently completed Binary Domain. It's alright, a far cry from anything 'amazing' I'd say. Despite having a lot of anticipation for it, I now find it hard to understand why so many people seemingly love this thing. Make no mistake, I think it's a good game, but nothing outstanding or anything. Is all the praise primarily rooted within the characters?

I didn't like the beta so much but it's still the sequel to my favorite game ever so I'll go Diablo III.

Well, i loved everything, seriously. The characters are a great part of why i fucking love this game, and i could go on and on about everything that this game has done RIGHT, but i need to sleep now.

If it was only 1 game all year I would go with Borderlands 2. Easily 100+ hours of messing around, and that's just getting started.

Well, i loved everything, seriously.

Including the superfluous squad mechanics, over-extended boss battles, poor frame-rate and how the story quickly implodes nearing the end?

Fair enough. Now sleep. I could do with some myself... weird timing that I've just finished rewatching Christopher Nolan's Insomnia and it's hit 6am :o

Like, I dunno. Bioshock or Halo maybe.

Kind of hard to chose when y'know, I have no idea if any of the games coming out will be good.

#38 Posted by Raven10 (1703 posts) -

Well I'm pretty sure nothing is going to blow me away like Journey did so if I had to choose just one that would be it. If you mean out of games that haven't been released yet it would have to be Bioshock: Infinite.

#39 Posted by FancySoapsMan (5797 posts) -

Probably the Witcher 2.

I'd say Xenoblade but I already own it.

#40 Posted by 1nfinitum (200 posts) -

The Darkness 2. I haven't been able to focus on games in a long while, but I finished that game in one day. Damn that ending.

#41 Posted by MyNiceIceLife (612 posts) -

Depends on if Persona 4 The Golden comes out this year in the states or not, cause that would easily be the only game I would play if I had to choose. Other than that it's kind of hard to choose. Mass Effect 3 would be a simple choice cause I know what it is and liked it, I could spend a lot of time in Diablo 3 but then again maybe I won't, Halo 4 could be awesome, and there are too many others to list. So, I'll just stick with Persona 4 The Golden assuming it comes out this year.

#42 Posted by planetary (341 posts) -

Diablo 3, hands down.

#43 Posted by punisherkaos (271 posts) -

Persona 4 arena unless persona 4 the golden comes out this year in the states

To buy, you mean? Guild Wars 2. Then I'd have Tribes aswell since I don't have to pay shit for it :P

well, the framerate wasn't that bad (it never bothered me) and I don't think the story implodes nearing the end (I felt the end was justified enough and it was hella entertaining) but sometimes you just love a game that isn't the greatest, but it's got something about it that just makes it amazing. Alpha Protocol was this for me, as was Nier

The ending just didn't make a lot of sense to me. And I know that there are alternate endings and such, but the one I got:

everyone's motivations were completely out of sync. Faye was a hybrid and was dead-set on killing everyone, yet once it came to the final battle, she decides 'whatever' and opts to join you anyway. And yeah while Dan did spare her life, he was also still very much all for destroying the AI and the technology to create more hybrids, and then is willing to still stick with Faye and fight against an entire nation with her because of.. true love? C'mooooon! A really cheap and fairy tale romance I'd say. And the US Government want to kill all the hybrids and hollow children, yet also want to save the AI that created them because they wanted... the technology? I suppose that's understandable considering Phillips was all of a sudden transformed into a Bond villain. And just why would Dan turn against his country like that anyway when he's, again, so equally accepting of what these hybrids are? As in Faye, the apparent love of his life.

Let's see, Big Bo's betrayal came out of nowhere too and felt like it was there just to tick off another character for some dramatic effect; also Rachel... lol, like what was even the point? And then there was Kurosawa who just disappears completely! I at least know that Cain (and Shinto?) return if you're a high enough trust level, but Kurosawa doesn't even give you the chance for any such trust to form really. Unless he does return even still in another ending? I guess I can't judge entirely, but the ending I got overall felt messy and tried to push everything out of the gate a little too fast--notably the Dan & Faye relationship arc to lead into a sequel. Well, you can definitely tell this is a story by the Yakuza guys in any case ;P

I'm not one to shrug at the idea of loving a game that's definitely out of the ordinary; Deadly Premonition hit the #3 spot on my 2010 GOTY list. But it's very clear as to why people can bow down at such a game. Binary Domain for me comes across as being largely generic; some great characters at least, but nothing that would stand out in a ''best new character of the year'' award. Alpha Protocol is another I can easily see the appeal; there's a lot I personally like about that game as well, despite its vast amount of problems. Binary Domain for me feels like it's really stretching it, though.

Also: irrelevant, but holy christ, Troy Baker and Laura Bailey like to duo up in damn well everything! You'd think they were joined at the hip or they had some sort of contract where they have to star in a game together once per month. But man, Troy Baker was pretty great in this all the same. When it all comes to a head discovering about the hybrids and then on, Baker gives a great performance as he clashes with Dan.

EDIT: Actually, Travis Willingham done a surprisingly good job as Dan too. I was all ready to write Dan off as some rent-a-Shepard marine, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much he grown on me.
