All I need to show for evidence is this one clip... and I think people will cry over it.

Yes, DoubleFine is making this. I think it is official everyone, DoubleFine has called it quits on high quality console/PC games and are now going to become the next Rare at this rate...

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Please DoubleFine! Don't make the mistake of being fucking morons like Rare! PLEASE!

They're the first ones to do "the floor is lava" on kinect. This is nothing but a milestone for Kinect. So good on them. Also, they need monies to fund their next big project. If this helps them out, then sure.

I don't really like them going the downloadable route but what will be will be I guess.

Hope there's some sort of Psychonauts successor someday.

Nah I think they still have their focus and are just having some fun with side products.

Gotta admit, even though I HATE the direction of what DoubleFine is doing, I have to admit, the lava floor thing is fucking awesome. Played that a lot as a kid!

It's about time someone turned "The Floor is Lava" into a full-blown, multimedia experience.

What are you bitching about, again?

With Stacking, Costume Quest and Iron Brigade recently, why worry?

They'll make some awesome kids games. They'll make some awesome adult games. Everyone wins.

Let's overreact about an obviously just-for-laughs Kinect mini-game compilation.

That DoubleFine may start becoming the next Rare right in front of us. This is something to worry about considering what Rare is now and what DoubleFine has been doing.

@Jay444111: "What Double Fine has been doing?" You mean making entertaining games? If that's a sign that a developer is in trouble, then I think the entire industry is about to implode.

Not every game they make needs to appeal to you. Them making a game that you have no interest in does not signal their impending doom.

I'm pretty sure the Double Fine guys talked about this game somewhere. The idea for Happy Action Theatre apparently came about during the development of the Sesame Street game. The guys working on the Sesame Street came across so much Kinect madness that they decided it would be a good idea to take that stuff and turn it into a game that kids (or drunk adults) would really enjoy.

Rare only stopped making good games, when people stopped buying them. Viva Pinata and Nuts & Bolts are two of the best games this generation, yet were completely ignored by gamers. If you want Rare back, go out and buy those games, don't sit around complaining how they "used" to be great. It's your fault! yes you!

I don't see what this has to do with Rare, or why this is a bad thing. They also made Once Upon a Monster. Did you freak about that, too? They are making these downloadable games to save up money to make another big-budget console game in the vein of Brutal Legend and Psychonauts. While those games were (mostly) critical successes, they were (relatively) financial failures. Doing these little games lowers their risks and increases their profits, allowing them to continue doing the other games they do. Also, Costume Quest was awesome.

They JUST released 4 really good downloadable games within the past few years, so this isn't a problem.

When they're stuck making items for something instead of games, then we have a problem.

Big blockbuster games weren't working for Double Fine. Psychonauts didn't sell very well. Brutal Legend didn't sell very well. Their next big budget disk based console game probably wouldn't have sold well, and they would have probably gone out of business.

So instead they have changed their focus onto smaller, more innovative games. They did Costume Quest. They did Trenched. They did Stacking. All of which are have been very well received. Sure, they're doing some kinect stuff too, but even that stuff looks so much better than what other companies are putting out. They're not just putting out shovelware to make a quick buck. They're putting time and effort into making these games as good as they can. And I'm pretty sure that they're going to continue with their Costume Quest/Trenched/Stacking style stuff too. They're branching out. They're diversifying. And they're doing that because they have to. They weren't making money before. It certainly seems like they're doing far better now.

It always makes me chuckle a little inside when fans get to the point where they believe they can forsee the future of a company just because of a couple of titles. This looks entertaining and to be a side project at best to help them fund a larger project. I mean, for Christ's sake, it's a business and if they can add a little revenue on the side of their next new experimental product, why the fuck not?

I mean...they are games...

I'm not sure how that game relates to rare. Is it because rare has started to make kinect games? By that logic, why haven't you created a thread saying Harmonix is becoming the next rare?

Look Jay, you clearly have tons of heart and bounds of energy but I feel your time would be better spent getting upset over real issues. Instead of writing about how angry you are over the particular shade of eggshell blue on your wall or some shit, next time, why don't you write about politics or the health care system or something historical. You know, something that...actually matters.

I have yet to see him accuse Double Fine of being Muslim or Nazis but that seems to be the next "logical" step.

DoubleFine have never made good games, so I don't see why you're so surprised.
