They actually explained that in the DVD commentary. Apparently using the real Halo 3 would've been a pain in the ass, from a legal stand point, so they just decided to fuck around and not deal with it.

Ripped from today's headlines! I particularly liked the closeup on the sweaty neckbeard's face with his fat tongue sticking out. So lifelike! TV shows and movies can never get video games right, much less the people that play them.

Alright, this isn't updating in real time. I'll create a GUI (GUI interface is redundant, reminding me of the DLC content thread going on right now) in Visual Basic (man. when did this episode come out?). Then I'll see if I can track an IP address.

I like how all gaming-related clips mention high scores and levels, as if they're a thing anymore.

It's painful to watch, yes, but *shrugs shoulders*. I don't care, SVU and pretty much any show on TV these days, especially "crime dramas" treat pretty much anyone who has an interest in something as a loser. Movies, video games, comic books, computers, etc., anything that can be considered "geeky" in the least has a good chance of being represented by a badly written, stupid character.

And any time they deal with computers, they unfailingly remind me that I'm all for grade schools having a mandatory "Fucking Computer Basics, Dumbass" class that teaches you more than just how to open Internet Explorer and Word.

@CornBREDX: Was going to mention that as well. One of the nice touches with that show is that they actually seem to know video games. There was another episode where they mentioned left 4 dead.

The synopsis is that this kid was "addicted" to competetive Call of Duty. When his parents disciplined him by taking away his xbox, he runs away from home. He was missing for a while until they found him dead. For some reason he decides to climb a tree, falls out of it, and dies. Naturally the video games were to blame. I was so pissed when this was on I could barely watch the whole thing. I couldn't believe the blatant bias and agenda. This is even worse than poor representation in shows because it's supposed to be a journalistic piece and influences people's opinions. I took a sad story about a little boy's disappearance and death, and turned it into a sensationalist sham.

There was a veritable shitstorm of comments on that page after this aired (I'm talking like 600 in a few days) almost all of them against the segment's bias. After a week or two they innocuously locked the page and removed the comments.

Still not as bad as the House episode with that stupid virtual reality game.
