Dude. A freaking ring world, a small battalion of marines, a jeep being chased by a unique looking flying vehicle, and a bad-ass looking dude with a cool looking weapon you want to use. it truly defines the game, and whenever I look at it I gain memories and nostalgia. I think I am one of the very few that cherishes Halo CE's boxart more.
@Tru3_Blu3: I hear what you're saying, and it sounds great when you put it like that, but I need some sort of stylistic hook. Aesthetically it's boring. Again, I like it as a video game cover, but it still just looks like a video game cover.
But man, since you mentioned it, my nostalgia for that game... Such good memories. Playing at a friends house, totally sucking yet loving every second of it. Really seminal in my personal gaming history.

It's a dismembered hand. Dismemberment is a key part of the game. It's floating in space. The game takes place in space. The hand has armor. You wear a form of armor. There is blood on a severed hand. That means it will be gory. Also, you know that someone will have a severed hand somewhere...and you DO find out where that comes from.
@Conker: so when I saw the picture I thought this was a joke, but reading your post I guess you're being serious. In which case, that is one the shittier box-arts I've ever seen. There's literally NOTHING going on artistically, and nothing about it makes me think this game is anything but another generic military shooter. What's so appealing about it? It would look perfectly at home in a bargain bin at Walmart.
By the way, Symphony of the Night deserve some sort of special reward for having the prettiest and ugliest cover at the same time, just in different regions.
I reeeeeeally disagree with the guys who suggested Quake and Oblivion. I buy games in spite of boxart like that, not because of it. You're just staring at a wall with a logo on it. :P Now, staring at a head with a logo on it, on the other hand...
Gotta go with this one. I've never even played a YDKJ game, honestly, but there's something about the fact that they chose to make their cover, the first thing the average person will see about their product, part of a bald dude's head with a challenge tattooed on it, that builds up actual interest in what this could be, and already starts to sell their idea of an incredibly silly trivia game.

too bad they totally retconned in the whole "he escaped somehow oh hey look over there more space monsters for you to kill"
