Hey guys, without the things people really like for the PC, the PC would be dead. Compelling argument. "
No, without the two big game companies that cater almost exclusively to the PC, then PC gaming would be no more. It's not hard to understand.

How would things be like if Steam was never created? How different would the PC gaming market be?

Isn't this like saying, "If it weren't for Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo then console gaming would be dead!"? You console kiddies come up with the most retarded arguments. "
So are you saying that without Valve or Blizzard then the PC gaming scene would be perfectly fine?

Really? All the arguments you could have made for consoles and you went with that?

Sorry bud but the PC has a much larger variety of games. Remember a PC can take advantage of any game type that should be using a mouse and any game type that should be using a controller.

PC gaming isn't dead because people still play Ultima Online. Consider that.

Actually - another point, PC gaming is always probably at a slight disadvantage - because of non-uniform hardware.   If you want to develop for XBOX Live arcade there are libraries and engines and all sorts of stuff to speed things up and make it easier - there is no problem with hardware compatability.  With PC's, okay you can licence the unreal engine if you're so inclined, and licence Havok for your physics, but you still have to churn out a game at the end of the day which works with ATi and Nvidia and is playable on older PC's but looks amazing on current, high spec ones.  It needs to run on probably at least the current and previous MS operating system, you then might want a MAC port which is a totally different OS and chip architecture....

I think you have to applaud the likes of Blizzard and Valve for being loyal to the PC platform, there are probably far easier ways for a developer to make money - with less risk of piracy eating into your profits.
