Guess I'll add a couple more shots since the last few posts have been mostly text. :P
Kane and Lynch 2 Demo, maxed settings.
The visual style is very interesting, I don't know if I've ever seen anything quite like it before. It does the sort of action shaky cam that you see in movies when it doesn't matter (going from point to point) and keeps still when you're aiming so that it's not intrusive.
From a still shot comparison, it's probably most akin to Splinter Cell Conviction, but I would say it looks better.
From a performance standpoint, it's very good - but weird, let me explain. No SLI support as of yet so I was only playing with a single GTX 275. On maxed settings (1920x1080, 16xQ AA, AO on, all settings highest) I was getting about 50fps average which is very good. Anyone with even a mid-end card should be able to play it at very high settings just fine. However, I was getting GPU load behavior that I haven't seen with any other game; according to EVGA Precision my GPU was at 100% load, however the fan only went up to 50% (temps were normal). In any other game where the GPU has been pushed to 100% load the fan would reach at least 80%, usually 90-100%. Not really sure what that means but the temps were normal and the game was running well, can't complain.
Gameplay is fairly par for the course, but with an emphasis on flanking and destructible environments.
This thread hasn't been active for a while. Bumping with some Metro shots.
Finished it a couple of days ago. Final impressions: mediocre shooting and screwed up stealth mechanics hinder gameplay and enjoyment in a few parts (mainly the parts involving human adversaries, and the library to a lesser extent), beautiful visuals (even on normal/medium settings, which I played the game at), very good atmosphere and a pretty cool backstory. The narrative of the game was good enough for what the game was trying to achieve, but left some questions unanswered and phenomena unexplained, which I assume the announced sequel should take care of.
Overall, the game was enjoyable, and especially so towards the end.
Mafia II Demo (first few minutes)
Things I liked:
- Overall, the game looks nice
- Vegetation is some of the best I've ever seen
- Main character is well textured and animated
- Good atmosphere
- Good voicework on the main characters
- Cinematic style that somewhat works
- Decent performance (considering how large the world is)
- The small level featured in the demo showed decent level design
Things I didn't like:
- There is some sort of weird yellowish orange filter; can't decide if I like it or not.
- Character models and voicework are reused waaay too often, though that may be a consequence of it being a demo.
- Driving is pretty bad
- Difficulty is a little high (you will sometimes feel "1-shotted")
- Shooting seems like it would grow stale fast
- Death animations are sometimes silly, and seem to repeat a lot.
- Benchmark is bugged; showed 20fps without PhysX, but actual gameplay was ~45-50fps with PhysX on (at max settings)
- PhysX has minimal impact on visuals (physics is already present with PhysX off; PhysX simply seems to add some particle effects)
Forgot to turn on AA for these shots, but ME2 is still a beautiful game without it.
^Lol at Garrus in the last one.
Also, as a point of interest, I'm currently playing through it on Insanity and I find it easier than when I first played through it on Normal. Maxed out powers are really useful. Anyone else have this experience?
Here's a shot of me (the blue guy) playing Halo 3 from a couple years ago. I spent like ten minutes running around trying to get a sniper rifle and then find a good perch. All the while I thought I was being really sneaky, grabbing invisibility, crouching and shit. Finally, I found a good spot, and juuuust as I was getting nestled in.... *BAM*. Someone killed me.
Some screenshots of Persona 4. Second playthrough now, coming back after a 6 month break. Hard to remember what to do. Internal resolution of 1920x1080 but kept at a 4:3 aspect ratio (this game just stretches for widescreen). View my profile to see the full size images. The game looks amazing in HD. :)
A couple more screens. It sucks that you can't just click them to view full size. These small images don't do it justice.
Sorry about the fragments of fraps there, I set it to autocapture at 1 second intervals because the game is just too fast to take proper screenshots. Also sorry about the volume of the shots, they were small so I'd thought I'd post more.
Here's a gameplay video for you to see what the action's really like (note that the player is most definitely not me). The music is awesome as well.
Here are some Lara Croft Guardian of Light screenshots, along with my brief impressions (with the demo).
- Story is kind of standard fare, but enough to move the game along. Action-puzzle games don't really require a deep story in my opinion.
- Lara is still Lara; confident and bright. Her voice actor is very suitable.
- Combat is decent, but could be expanded upon (might be later in the game)
- Platforming elements are solid, but sometimes impeded by the fixed camera. There will be no problems the vast majority of the time, but you will miss a jump from time to time. Not too big of an issue overall.
- There are powerups to obtain throughout the level, as well as rewards for completing certain challenges within the level. In addition, there are also relics, artifacts, and possibly additional weapons to attain.
- PC controls on default are kind of bad, you will have to change them to be more appropriate (no PC game should make that much use of the alt key). Can be played with controller, which is a much better experience (played through half the demo with controller, half with mouse+keyboard). Multi directional jumping is difficult with WASD. The shooting is better with the mouse though.
- The overall aesthetic of the game is reminiscent of Titan Quest, for those that have played that.
- Enemies can come from all sides, above and below, which makes for a cool visual effect since you can see them coming from all over the buildings around you in some cases.
- Graphically, the game is rather inconsistent. From a far out view the game looks quite nice, but large blocks of relatively low res textures can come randomly, and the game's textures don't come up so well overall when seen up close (e.g. in a cutscene). Certainly enough, but nothing special on the technical front.
- Artistically, the game is quite nice. It's exactly the tone, style and color you would expect from traversing a temple or tomb.
- The game's appearance as a whole is good, but is sometimes marred by bad textures that sprout up.
- Performance-wise, the game requires slightly above mid-end if you want to run it at 1920x1080 4xAA 60fps. Even on high end systems, certain areas or situations will probably drop you down in framerate. This might be fixed after the game is launched and proper drivers are released for it.
If the rest of the game is like the demo, 8/10. Pretty good, I will most likely be picking this up whenever it becomes available.
