I'm just curious as to how the community sees this. I personally think Skyrim will make Mass Effect 3 look like Elcor poop, but that's me.
I mean look at it, Mass Effect 3 is Mass Effect 2 continued. Skyrim is Oblivion times 10,000.
So what do you think?
Edit: To clarify for those saying stuff like "The games aren't similar so you can't compare." Think of it this way:
Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls are the two RPGS that formed this generation. Now, both will be coming back and around the same time too. This forum is just asking the simple question of which game (in your opinion) will be better.
Skyrim vs. Mass Effect 3
I'll be getting both, because I love both the Elder Scrolls and the Mass Effect series.
Also, Skyrim has been in development way longer than Mass Effect 3.
I think that it's a strange comparison to make since they are both completely different games. Personally, I'm not interested in either of them.
I think we shouldn't compare two games that aren't even released yet.
Or that aren't really all that similar.
I think that it's a strange comparison to make since they are both completely different games. Personally, I'm not interested in either of them. They're both very different in terms of setting, gameplay, and stuff of that nature, but these are the two biggest RPGS to be released in the next few years and... wait, you're not interested in either? * Waits for user to post a picture reacting to your madness*
Personally, I am looking forward to the story in Mass Effect 3 more. I mean, it's the end of series I've been following since the beginning. I've invested countless hours into the series and enjoyed almost all of them.
Don't get me wrong though, I imagine I'll spend a ton of time - probably more - with Skyrim. Oblivion was a massive game, and while it had its share of problems (including a God awful main story arc), I still loved it.
I refuse to make a choice. Hahah... I'm going to play both of them and love them.
I think the community will play and enjoy both games and when GOTY rolls around the guys will choose ME3 over Skyrim for best Multi-plat.
I'm more excited for Skyrim than I am for Mass Effect 3, but that is because I much the Fantasy genre over the Sci-Fi one. Also, vikings and winter are awesome.
That said, I'm certain I'm going to love ME3, as I adored ME2 and ME1 and I'm quite a Bioware fan.
But if I had to choose one over the other (I don't have to, I'm employed) - I'd go with Skyrim. No contest.
I mean look at it, Mass Effect 3 is Mass Effect 2 continued.But....but I care about the story. Fantasy ain't my cup of tea and sci-fi does indeed have its eye-rolling cliches but, take it or leave it, the ME story has definitely caught my interests and I sure as shit am going to buy ME3. That doesn't mean I won't be looking into buying Skyrim. If anything Bethesda are masters at taking weeks of your life away just to get you thinking of which gear you wanna roll with to counter your character's encumbrance. So it's all just apples and peaches, man.
No comparison. Just wondering people's opinion on which will be better.@Bloodgraiv3 said:It might help if you elaborated on what it is about them you are comparing.

When you think of this generation, what two RPGs truly started it? Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls. What games will be coming back for another round? Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls. See what I'm saying dog?
The games are way too different to compare, but if I had to choose I'd pick Skyrim.
Mass Effect is way too linear for me to replay. Skyrim however, can be played forever.
Plus, Bioware won't allow mods on the Mass Effect games. I'm aware that no one wants nude mods running wild on ME too, but some really handy non-porn mods could really improve the games.

Skyrim looks like they're changing the formula for open world rpgs in terms of quest structure, combat, and leveling. Mass Effect 3 looks like Mass Effect 2.5. But hey, Mass Effect 2 was great. So why not more of the same greatness? I probably will spend more hours on Skyrim though.

There's no "versus" to it, in my opinion. If Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim came out on the same day, I would buy them both. Probably the collector's edition of each as well.
Both series do different things really fucking well, and it's dumb to pit them against each other.
If you are comparing the amount of progress / difference between the new releases and their predecessors then Skyrim will win that argument. But that's quantitative, since Skyrim has had more time to improve on it's past effort, so I expect a bigger leap in tech and things like that. The more qualitative aspects of each game might be harder to debate as the two games vary dramatically in design philosophy.
One is an on-rails action adventure game with a lot of cut-scene and story material, the other one is a wide open free-roaming action-fantasy adventure. Thread would have a purpose if they both were to be released in the same month but I guess adding Kinect support came with that large of a moneyhat they just couldn't resist.
I dont even think you could call mass effect an rpg anymore... (that is assuming they do the same as in ME2)
MY OPINION IS:
Mass effect 3 will have aliens fighting a human man or girl will have sex with human girl or man or maybe alien. Some shoting and plot will also occur.
Skyrim will have faces asking you to stop and get arrested. You will be able to loot stuff from houses, but dont cause you are thief.
Both will probably be dumbed down crap for console kiddies <3
edit: install Arcanum: of steamworks and magic obscura . but only if you are true pc.

Sorry, I had to do it.
Apples and Oranges. Let's face it: Mass Effect 3 is a known quantity in a lot of aspects. We know that they're not going to revamp EVERYTHING like they did in ME 2 (for the better in my opinion, but that's not what this topic is about), so we can assume that the basic mechanics and structure are going to be at least comparable to Mass Effect 2. Certainly, I'm pumped to see Shepard beat the Reapers (less than pumped about the internet bitching that will follow, regardless if its deserved or not. After Dragon Age II, people are thirsty for more blood), but Skyrim has the potential to be totally bananas and as significant a leap as from Morrowind to Oblivion (once again, your opinion on direction of this leap may vary). In any case, I'm going to get both.
