I know that many of you probably have debated a variation of this topic before but it has been on my mind for sometime.
My question: If Giant Bomb were to someday hire one of those so-called "gamer babes" and make her a prominent part of the site, how would you feel?
Myself, I would not be happy. The big problem I have with them is they cater to the clan of "never been kissed" 13 year-old boys who always suck up to these ladies and try to butter them up every chance they get. Instead of going out in the real world and meeting women, these fools just worship the eye-candy. It just gives video gamers a bad name, that we are nerds who can't get laid.
That's why I love this site. No desperate men....as far as I know.
If its deliberately to attract more younger males to this site, then obviously its a disappointment that they would do that. But I feel that this would never happen.
However if by any chance that the "gamer babe" is both attractive yet informative on games (and is genuinely a gamer) then I honestly don't see a problem with it. As long as they don't try to sell the sex appeal of a lady. Gamer girls can be pretty at the same time, you know?
Oh and I'm not sure how I feel about Jessica Chobot from IGN. She was more or less hired for infamously licking the PSP suggestively. But its not like she doesn't know how to play games at all or anything.
If ladies are hired on the sole basis of their looks, I'll be disappointed. If ladies are hired because they write good, and play computer games because they like computer games, I don't have a problem.
If dudes are hired because they got a name in the industry or they look rugged and hot, I'll be dissapointed. If dudes are hired because they write good, and play computer games because they like computer games, I don't have a problem.

We're talking Brazilian hot here, she's got her degree, and was hired by Comic Vine after doing some seriously kick ass work as a user first and foremost. And she totally digs the Assassin Creed Series. What would be the problem with hiring the video game version of her for Giant Bomb?

@Dantekiller: The problem might come when a girl just wants to dress the way she wants. What is she goes tank-top or just something some prude would consider 'sexy/revealing/inappropriate?' Is she to succumb to the users on how she dresses? What if she just wants to be comfortable or something along those lines? When a gal gets in trouble for just being herself, thats when I take issue. We've all seen the GB guys do interviews - they do it in t shirts. We're fine with that. What is Sara just chose to go casual one day...is she held to a different standard?

Yeah, Sara is very pretty. I doubt however, if gender would necessarily be a deciding factor, if Whiskey Media was planning on hiring more. I mean, they aren't going to be like, hmm, we have to only hire pretty ladies. They just need to be qualified. I would assume.
I would have a problem with them hiring anyone be it man, woman, shemale, midget, obese, handicapped or otherwise not because I hate everyone and everything but because the bombcast will be longer and weirder in a different format. 4 is all I need and will ever need. I don't like change...it scares me!
@Bluethunder35: If she's an authentic gamer, then I have no problem with it. No sense penalizing her for being pretty. If she's hired just to be video eyecandy, then I'll be annoyed by the disrespect, but I'd still continue to read GB anyway.
Also what would be the point of having a hot girl who doesn't know anything about games? It's not like they are advertising on TV or any other sites. BTW the only woman I could think of that is just a hot ditz for eye candies sake is Olivia Munn.
I don't think they need to add a girl to what is already a perfect formula. If they did, I doubt they'd get a 'gamer babe' because Giant Bomb is more tasteful and credible than that - and that's the reason most of us love this site. However, it shouldn't matter whether she's good looking or not, only that she's a good journalist and isn't out to debase herself by licking various items or suggestively eating hot dogs.
@Bluethunder35: Uh, well I would have nothing against a woman on the GB team. I honestly feel that Ellie Gibson is the funniest part of EG, though others dislike her immensely. I would object to a "gamer babe", because by definition you've already set up this idea of her being eye candy first, a journalist second. It's in bad taste and denigrating towards women.
I wouldn't mind it at all, as long as they weren't hiring her on the grounds that she is a woman, but on the grounds that she is knowledgeable about video games and can contribute to to the site. Carrie Gouskos was a good example of this at GameSpot (back when this site didn't exist).
