It's that time again, Summer Games Done Quick is upon us and the schedule is looking tasty. In the next few days video games fans from all over the world will join forces for charity.

Giantbomb Community DONATION GOALS!

Donations can be made freely but one of the most effective ways to #engage donators is through the use of Donation Incentives. Especially when multiple options are available because this creates bidding wars, a charity auction if you will. The most famous example of this at Games Done Quick is the Super Metroid save/kill the animals bidding war.

Did you know that the Giant Bomb community has a history of entering these bidding wars and donating for a specific cause?

E.g.

• During AGDQ 2014 we amassed nearly $9000 to change Robo's name in Chrono Trigger to "RyanD"! (https://youtu.be/yFTQFUQPhG8?t=1h2m8s)
• During SGDQ 2014 we managed to raise over $6000 to change Yoshi's name to "Gerstman" in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! (https://youtu.be/M5DiKtHTWSU)
• We also nearly succeeded at a double whammy during AGDQ 2015 when we managed to set the race of the main character in Morrowind to Argonian and came tantalizingly close to changing the name of the character to "Air Force Gator".

All we have to do now is think of a good donation goal we can rally behind and achieve! We could go for Chrono Trigger names again, something else on the list, or maybe even something that hasn't been added yet.

The Super Metroid Race to close things out is a donation incentive apparently (there's one on the day before as well)? Either that or the entire final day will be absent of Saving and Killing Animals by giving money to charity; but Any% fits in the 50 minute mystery slot pretty well. One can only hope all four runners die this time for comedy purposes.

Excited for my life to be dominated by this once again.

The Metroid Race has got to be one of the most disappointing holdovers of the event. It's hyped up so much but ends up being kinda boring and at points actively discouraging excitement. What happened at AGDQ last time cemented my feelings on it. It was such a dour cap on a great weekend. The energy in the room during the Megaman X race is 10 times better and encouraged audience participation. I don't think they lose anything if they switch up ending events.

For the donation incentives, how about something Ben and/or Abby-related (Babby?) If we drum up enough support, I'm sure we can get an Earthbound name.

All this means Evo's round the corner as well. I do wish they changed up some of the more established run slots, though. Pick one Megaman, Sonic or Castlevania, please. Not unless these runs have new, impactful skips not seen on such a stage.

@burncoat: Except the loads of donations they get from the saving/killing bidding war. Seriously, it was responsible for some ridiculously large percentage of the total donations for the entire week last time. I can't see them ever changing up the closer. I wish they would too though, it's getting a bit stale.

@beachthunder: Something Abby/Ben related could be neat. Not sure which game would be best to add something Ben/Abby-related though. My other main idea was doing something Ryan-related on the day of his passing but I'm not really sure anything on the schedule fits.

Is the ExplosiveRuns chat more or less dead now? Are we just going to hang around the Giant Bomb discord?

This kind of snuck up on me, but I don't have work tomorrow or Tuesday so I'm going to have a lot of fun watching this.

Looking at the bid index, it seems like we're going to go for RyanD as Robo's name again!

Donated $25 to change the name to RyanD. I didn't even know that it was a thing until I went to the donation page and saw all the goals.

Pretty awesome. I just wish there was an option to donate towards renaming Epoch to 2Poch.

Apparently the timer was off by 1 second a minute in the early runs.

Someone noticed how surprised runners were by their times, and did a manual check of the clock. It has then been confirmed by other sources. It may be that the WR Castlevania time was a fluke. I'd hate to be that guy, especially since he apparently had an even better unrecorded run while practicing before the live run. That's twice he's been denied.

I'm glad SGDQ donations go to MSF, instead of a cancer organisation that only applies to America.

Never understood that. GDQ is a global thing, so maybe don't restrict the donations to an American organisation?

For previous SGDQs and AGDQs someone on reddit made a list of the games and would update it with links to the right timestamp in the twitch archive for the starting point of each run. I haven`t been able to find it for this event though. It was really usefull for finding specific runs instead of just scrubbing through the Twitch archives. I wondered if I just missed it or if someone knew of a similar list somewhere?

I have few comments, but I tune in now and then and watch a run. They're spectacularly impressive. Also, Sonic Generations looked great.

Been enjoying event, this pokemon run is long but a good set of games coming up. Gonna try to stay up through Silent Hill 2 run but I doubt I will make it, maybe if I get some snacks :-)

Too bad they dont label the blocks on the schedule anymore. I just want to know when Awful Games Done Quick is.

Half Life was a really good run. He was bunny hopping around super fast while still giving commentary over everything.

@dudeglove: The game submissions were locked before Breath Of The Wild had a reliable and stable route. The game was so open that the times, routes and categories were constantly changing and it would have been nearly impossible to fit the game into the schedule. This caused the organizers to leave BotW out and have it at AGDQ when the runs would be more stable.

@hassun: Code Veronica is generally considered as like the worst or second worst classic RE game.

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV race was really good, also Megaman X run and people saying "Good Job Fatso!" unironically (also Colonel Fatso isn't particularly fat).

The Dishonored 2 speedrun was so fast that even without playing the game it still spoiled next to nothing.

SpikeVegeta singing Gaston is everything I've ever wanted.

I have watched a couple of runs so far and really enjoyed it. The commentary from both the speedrunners and the couch has really upped it`s quality since the early years of AGDQ (for the most part anyway). I am definitely going to check out a lot more runs as I get more time to watch them.

I also don`t think Twitch had chat archives for previous events or if they had I must have just ignored it. I don`t watch a lot of twitch streams, so this might be the norm, but holy crap is that chat terrible. Half of it is people spamming emotes ban bad memes and the other half is people being real toxicsoso jerks. I don`t even wanna know what people say in the messages that get deleted. Huge props to the mods that are watching over the chat. That mus be a real soul draining experience.
