Never felt it, never will. Davis, CA wouldn't be a good place to set a game. Neither would OKC, where I grew up. Even Sacramento, where I was born, wouldn't be great.
That weird feeling when a game is set in YOUR hometown
Palm Bay, Florida probably won't be showing up in any games soon, unless it's a high school football game. Fun fact about Palm Bay High, it's actually located in Melbourne!

I wa hyped as hell for Fallout: New Vegas because (you guessed it) I grew up there. Just seeing what Fallout 3 did with the DC surrounding (visitng familiar locations) was one of my favorite parts of that game so I could not wait to do that to my stomping grounds.
F:NV is pretty real to life in other ways; most specifically all of the surrounding towns and stuff (primm, nipton, searchlight)
and north vegas is a shithole also so correct in that respect as well
small town Massachusetts? nah, i dont think any games will be set here. maybe boston, but not in my crappy town. its not even spooky for a horror game, its not "homey" for the whole russia invades the US thing, doesnt have good roads for racing. it just sucks.

The only game set (loosely) on Venezuela that I know is Mercenaries 2 and thats probably going to be the only one.
that game was horrible, but i kinda really liked it lol
New York City isn't my home town but I'm pretty close. I can't say it's ever felt strange and the city so ingrained in pop culture that it's not something you really even think about.New York duders speak up on this one, your hometown is destroyed every tuesday in games
@Socialone: The Biodome is fun to check out once, just to see all the animals and whatnot, but the botanical gardens right next to it are a must see. It's such a beautiful place, with miles of flora from across the world in one location (I'm a biology major, which is kinda why I enjoy it so much).

Never gonna happen for me, I'm afraid. I'd love to see a game set in the tiny, little Norwegian fishing village I'm from, though.
It's called Half ife 2.
Also, Seattle needs more games that take place in it! It's a really cool city and seeing the Troll Under the Bridge in a game would be kick ass.
Yeah, I am from Seattle. They need more games here!
Also, be prepared to be annoyed by two-language conversations.
The town I was born in was Lewisville, TX, which is right outside of Dallas. Have there been any games set in Dallas? I don't know.
I live in Colorado Springs, CO right now, and I doubt there's ever going to be any games set here.

@Video_Game_King: There are game that take place on the Moon. Isn't that where you live?
There are several issues with the sentence you have typed before me.
The closest to a game set in my hometown was the Knoxville Cough in Homefront, and that's... not even close, to be honest. Like... 2 hours away from my hometown.
I guess my hometown would have a somewhat better chance than others, since it's next to the formerly longest steel arch bridge in the world, but those chances are still very slim.
Still waiting on GTA: GTA.
That would be one hell of a game. Skydiving off the CN tower into the Skydome? Doing a drive-by on those Bay street stock-trader cats? Blowing up Honest Ed's? Yes please.
All Toronto's got is that Scott Pilgrim beat-'em-up. Which had a couple funny references to the city, but not much. Mainly I loved how the coins you picked up were loonies, toonies and quarters.
Being from the suburbs, I can't have that experience. But I do empathize.
Also, more things should be set in Chicago.
I was going to say, "I don't know...", but now I realze that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is attached to play the first mate on the whaling ship the Essex in the harrowing real-life naval thriller movie In the Heart of the Sea. The story chronicles the grim fate of the Essex’s crew from Nantucket (where I live) after the ship was attacked and capsized by a sperm whale, inspiring Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.
Depending on how this movie is marketed there could be a video game....I rather doubt it...but you never know these days. If they do make a game...expect some cannibalism. But like I said it would be a huge stretch to expect a game form this project unless they decide to make it a summer blockbuster because of the success of Hemsworth's other movies.
Well I live in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. Which is close enough. So far it has been featured in Fallout 3: The Pitt and is where that Last of Us demo takes place. Both are fairly accurate on how shitty the place is. Also any football, baseball, or hockey game usually features our stadiums. We are also the birth place of zombies with Romero's of the Living Dead series all take place around here. Also a lot of post-apocalyptic movies from like the past 5 years were film around here.
@Halos_god:
Well, none of them have ever accurately depicted Lunarian culture in any way whatsoever. It's either the blank surface of the Lunar Shield, or some made-up sci-fi/fantasy whatevers.

Yeah, but Watch Dogs, at least in that preview, seemed to nail the look and feel of Chicago.
You figure if you live in Hong Kong, NY, LA or SPAAAAACE you have had a bunch of games in your town.
That said kind of pumped about AC4 bing in and around/Boston (Olde Tyme Boston) kind of I am sure there will be buildings and towers that are their for the game purposes).
I have not seen any of the Desomnd stuff and would "never stop playing" if the new secret hide-out was inside the Dunkin Donuts by North Station.
The first Left 4 Dead is as close to having a game in my home town as I've ever gotten. It was a bit surreal seeing the Allegheny National Forest sign at the beginning of Blood Harvest.
In video games set in the U.S. cities like New York, LA, and San Francisco hog most of the spotlight. While my hometown isn't tiny (Portland) the likelihood of it being the main setting of a video game is slim. I think the only way it's ever really been featured in a game is the Burnside skatepark in a few skateboarding games.
