The Giant Bombcast Animated (Kinda)

I wasn't 100% sure which board to post this on, but I wanted to share a video I made from the most recent Bombcast and I figured General would be the most appropriate.

I liked this segment on the most recent Bombcast so I decided to mess around in Premiere and see if I couldn't make something out of it. I'd love to hear what you duders think of it and if you have any suggestions for improvements I could make to future Giant Bomb Animated (Kinda) videos.

If this is the wrong board or anything like that, please let me know.

These are always pretty neat.

My feedback would be more background stuff when you don't have video stuff, as so much is just characters on a white background. More work, but then it's just an excuse to be shorter.

As a total aside I wonder what the future of these videos will be with Live Broadcast Giantbomb Cast Live Show Live?

Back on topic, my biggest suggestion would be to make it a little more your own. Like how LackingSaint made some really /great/weird/ videos that use the audio but just add some of his own spirit in. So maybe that's making new original music, or more than just text fills next to the P4 designs.

That said I do love these things. Keep on making fun stuff

This is cool. My suggestion would be to polish the typography a little. Try and keep the text vertically aligned; obsess a little more over kerning and line spacing. Otherwise I think the 'cinematographic' (if you can call it that here) decisions you've made are pretty damn good!

The ending is sooo good haha! Jeff nailed the whole segment!

That catch of Jeff saying "As someone whose liked Megaman games in the fast" was SO GOOD.

I want to disagree here and say it worked exactly as they intended it too, and is one of the better gags in the video. Jeff stumbled on his words, coincidentally saying "fast" which was called attention to by the Sonic head. Cutting away from it so quickly (by a fortunately timed comment from Dan) keeps allows it to be a blink and you miss it sort of joke, which enhances it in my opinion. It would have also worked if they held on the image of Jeff with the Sonic head popping up then gone again, but not as well. It's hard to precisely explain why it works, but it's a combination of the visual enhancing the audio, making a joke out of something that originally wasn't one.

On the other hand I totally agree that the timing stuff is the worst part about these things. I don't know what you guys use (I use Vegas Pro) but hand placing every image clip for the dialogue and trimming it to the timing is the most tedious thing and is usually what causes me to step away from it, but the draw of the wacky ideas brings me back.

Love the multimedia stuff in here, good use of animation principals within the "cardboard cutout" animation style.

Weighing in on the whole "sonic head" moment, I think that it works fine. Normally I would be against adding in visual elements less then half a second before a cut as it usually makes the cut a bit jarring to the audience. That said I think it works in this instance because people will not notice the sonic head when first watching so it does not cause the cut/cause it to be jarring.

New episode is done! This segment on Beastcast 51 was one of my favorites. I did have some ideas for other Bombcast clips, but the news of Austin leaving meant I had to at least get one out while he's still a full time employee here. I'm sorry the tribute at the end of this video is... well, what it is.

Awesome! I watched them all in the order you made them, and each one is better than the last. Your timing is awesome and you seem to pick up on all the right cues when it comes to the jokes, and the combination of non-moving portraits and pictures married to more dynamic sound and images is great. Can't wait to see the next one!
