Alex Ratcliffe? Navarro is so much better.
I kinda like Ratcliffe better. :p
@alex I'm intrigued, can we get more about your name change? As for the article, good stuff. i read the whole thing and there is zero chance i would buy that for me, friends or family. But, If Lasseter is behind it I think they might be able to pull off a toy that helps imagination in the kids that play it.
I'm waaay too old to be the target of this product, but I love the potential of this. Having watched a lot of footage, including the presentation in full over the last week, I both understand and lament that they are concentrating on the recent history of Disney, as fun as it looks. If they somehow worked in Marvel (using alternate costumes for the buff system is surely a no-brainer), eps. 4-6 of Star Wars (I'm gonna guess the clone wars stuff will be supported first), and "classic" Tron (I saw lots of stuff from recent Tron), along with their traditional, painted, animation I'm sure they could tug on the nostalgia-strings of parents (and me), too.
All in all, this looks a giant leap better than I expected when it was first announced, and look forward to see how it progresses.
As far a the column is concerned, hearing Alex on the GOTY podcasts reminded me how much I missed his regular input, and this now gives me something to look forward to on Sundays. Good first column, Alex, thanks.
Thank you for this, Alex! This kind of thing is EXACTLY what the site needed. Too bad everyone else is probably too busy to have their own columns...
Never before seeing that Disney cartoons promotional picture have I realized how heavily they had themselves invested in ducks.
Nice to see (read) more of you around here, Alex! Your writing tends to be pretty unique.
Did not care about Skylanders...but skylanders with Disney characters? YES!
I like reading these editorial pieces from Alex and Patrick Love how GB focuses more on these longer articles than just rewriting PR crap.
I hope the Disney figures have some sort of articulation (I can't tell really from the picture). What turned me off of Skylanders even as a collectable is not being able to put them in neat poses for display.
I love this! Hooray for new content that is free for everyone! I was also surprised that a bigger deal was not made about this on other sites. This looks like it could actually be a game changer.
Also this shit was hilarious:
Dear Disney People, I would like to see Duck Tales in your Infinity video game because it is my favoritest show. I also like Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles. Please do this or I will be sad forever. Sincerely, Alex Navarro -- Age 31
Good Job Alex! It was a good read. When Alex was with Screened... His articles were kind of mean. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
I am glad this column now exists. Always thought Alex was a gool guy from back in the Gamespot years. Finally signed up to Giantbomb just after reading this.
Hey, this is cool. I had no idea Disney was thinking of any of this, and when you lay it all out like this, it's obviously a big fucking deal.
I can't tell for sure if you were serious or not about your last name, but I think you were... so I have to ask you @Alex - what do you think of having a made up last name? I've been thinking of suggesting it to the ladyfriend instead of either not changing either of our last names, or having one of those goddamn hyphenated things. Seems like a cool idea. But picking one seems like it'll be a goddamn pain.
I love the fact that you just have a picture of Nicholas Cage screaming as your avatar.
edit: Oh, and that was a pleasant article to read. I love me some original content.
I would've loved to hear some of the hypothetical ideas that you feel Infinity might lead to.
For the next Guns of Navarro, I was thinking maybe there might be room for a video. Like David Jaffe does. An opinion piece, like this, but in video form.
Something of a Jar Time, but shorter and with a point. And to the point. You get the point.
Good stuff, man.
I will always take more Alex powered content. The annoying part about Disney Infinity is that it won't cater to the Disney I enjoy like Darkwing Duck, or Gargoyles.
Alex Navarro speaking his mind and at the same time being optimistic? That is completely mind blowing. In a really positive way!!
I'M CONFUSED. I thought I disliked Navarro's personality. WILL THIS AND UPCOMING ARTICLES TELL ME THAT HE IS A GOOD GUY?!?! Brrr.. Too many earth/internet shattering questions . but a really great read nonetheless! ;-)
Looking forward to more of this, it was a great read.
Also, fuck shitting on Patrick. You assholes do it everywhere. It has to fucking stop.
@Butano: Prime it up. It's a nostalgia machine.
Now I'm remembering hours of playing the Duck Tales game for Game Boy. A classic.
Great article Alex!
The negative tone of so much of your stuff on the site (which is necessary given the number of crap games you have to review) has made me unconsciously think of you as the site's resident pessimist, glad to read about something that you're actually excited about. I love the idea of the weekly column, keep it up!
As far as the Infinity stuff goes, I'm very excited about it. I have a handful of Skylanders and I love the premise, I just wish the game had a little bit more hidden depth and difficulty for the few adults that want to let their kid selves roam wild at Toys R' Us. Hopefully Infinity will provide a bit more game without sacrificing the ease of use that gets kids excited.
