oh shit there was a scene of Zoe's butt in underwear?!It's a bit long, but it's mostly the first section of this that was really emotional if you played through the game. Also HL2: EP2 ending goes without saying.
gotta replay this game

Literally just hit that part tonight with my room mate. We were silent for something like twenty-five minutes. Then we hit the choice.
It's unfortunate that there's a "wrong" choice.
Some of those sidequests, man...like the old man who lost his dog. Nier is such an aggressively depressing game and I love it, despite not liking stories that tend to be so "down."Second playthrough of Nier is one of the most aggressively depressing times with a game you can have. And the first playthrough isn't exactly a dance on roses either.
If you're up for even more punishment, there's an even more depressing third and fourth ending waiting for you.
Fable 2 when they killed the fucking dog. Ya... it made me cry. Want to fight about it?
I then proceeded to get pissed when I couldn't even have a boss fight at the end. That game is shit because it pissed me off in the wrong kind of way.
MGS: Snake Eater had a pretty amazing ending.
Dead Island has some touching stuff in it. Not quite enough to make ya cry, but its pretty messed up.
I'm sure there's more but I can't really think of many. You already said SH2, which was also a good tear jerker, but I cant think of many games that make me cry. Other then tears of frustration haha
Edit: Oh ya, Deadly Premonition's ending was sad too. It actually made me cry as well. There are others but im tired and forgetting them... bleh
The saddest gaming related event I've ever seen was a gaming releated real life incident.
Back when FFVII was still a thing, there was a kid in one of my HS classes that wore a FFVII shirt every few days all semester. One day, someone in my class went up to him and said something along the lines of "Wasn't it awful when Sephiroth killed Aeries!?" and the look on the kids face was just sheer, verge of tears, you just totally spoiled the game for me type of anguish. Apparently, while he had the game for months, he only got to play a few minutes a day because he had to share the TV with the rest of the family and hadn't gotten to that point in the game yet.
It was truly sad cuz the kid really seemed heartbroken about it. You know, cuz we were back in HS, and this kid was sorta a proto geek and prolly way into Aeries. Can't blame the spoiler guy tho cuz seriously, he wore that shirt all the freaking time.
i have a theory that its just randomly going to be released without any word about it. it'll just show up on steam one day out of the blue. i think that'd be pretty cool. The constant delays of Half Life 2: Episode Three.

@Marz: Sorry, I forget that some people enjoy being the douche bag that spoil stories for others. Carry on.
In his defense, he's referring to games that are SNES era old -_-;; The best thing I got from yous guys conversation was the spoiler tag within a spoiler tag. That was fun =D
Gears 2 when you find maria. i mean wasnt the saddest but it was pretty messed upThis. I couldn't move for a good number of minutes after watching that cutscene

This one. I felt super bad when this happened.
When you get to the vault in Borderlands and there's no pile of LOOT!
being serious I can't recall a really sad event at the moment, I keep thinking of Alan Wake scenes but nothing really sad.
Wading through a fetus-infested swamp in Demon's Souls and hacking them to pieces was pretty bad. More morbid than depressing. In their defense, they were the hardest enemy in the game, and I probably only made it out of that place one time.

@Little_Socrates: Do you know which Endurance Run vid this takes place in? I'd love to see the GB crew reaction but I haven't played thru the game or watched the P4 endurance run in its entirety so I have no idea where to find this scene -_-;;
It's in episode 130 and starts about 30 minutes in.
The true ending in 999 was quite moving, if you ask me. It wasn't exactly "sad", but it had its share of emotion. Really, every ending touches you in different ways. I was surprised, completely puzzled, moved to tears and filled with rage with that game :/
PS: Lovely spoilers, guys. Thanks for not using the tags! :D
The end of Red Dead Redemption.
All of Nier.
The Nanako scene in Persona 4.
Many parts of Lost Odyssey.
Really, no one has said Persona 3 yet?

@Akeldama said:It is only cliche because everyone agrees that it is sad as fuck. A lot of what happens at the end of Red Dead Redemption was pretty depressing. Oh, and speaking of Silent Hill, the scene where Lisa comes to terms with what she really is and just wants Harry to hold her is kind of a bummer as well.Metal Gear Solid 3's ending. Cliched answer, but it was a hell of an ending...
And speaking of speaking of Silent Hill...
The moment in Silent Hill 3 when Heather finally returns home to find her Harry brutally murdered...
@PenguinDust: I haven't played FES but mine from Persona 3 is
The truth. The day I finally got to play Dragon Age 2 and realized that it was a physical manifestation of the developers of said game taking a giant steaming shit on the first Dragon Age game, all the fans of Origins, and all the time and work that went into its creation.
Persona 4's Nanako scene was way too much for me. Persona 3's ending also left me in tears.
And c'mon guys, no one mentioned Fatal Frame 2's "Crimson Butterfly" ending? This one left me bad for weeks.
Nier is probably one of the most depressing games I've ever played.
And it's even more depressing after you read Grimoire Nier.
Gears 2 when you find maria. i mean wasnt the saddest but it was pretty messed upI don't know why but I laughed at it for some reason.

This was the first thing I came up with. I thought it was pretty freakin' sad. I'm pretty sure that was the first time a video game made me cry. My runner-up would be GTA IV if you choose to kill Dwayne. It's not dramatic at all, just depressing. I remember shooting him in the back of the head, and then setting down the controller and just sitting there for a good five minutes. Then reloading so I could kill Playboy X instead.

Have you played Persona 2?
Hmm, probably every major plot twist in the criminally underrated Nier. Everything else is Disney movie sad to me.
Red Dead Redemption
When John is shot like a million times after trying and failing Dead Eye. It was the futile attempt to survive at the very end that got me.
