Oh wow, I never played Alpha Protocol. Maybe I should give it a chance.
That doesnt say that much. I know there are tons of gay people out there playing games but would they buy a gay pron game?
@zeforgotten: Oh sorry. Ya, good point. I have heard they want to remake all the old ones. I read one of the commenters here say that they would be making a new one, but I have not seen that confirmed by Replay. They've said specifically they wanted to remake the old ones.
So, I don't know how that is going to turn out. They could make a new one, and if Al Lowe's still around I suspect it would turn out fine. From what Replay has said, it's really up to how well Reloaded is received if they do anything else (Leisure Larry wise).

I'll buy 500.000.000 copies and just give them to friends just to make sure that Reloaded is considered a hit :P
Though, I guess if I was thinking like Square Enix that would be far to few copies sold to be even considered close to mediocre sales.
wow didn't expect such a strong reaction from so many! Although from most people's replies I think I was not clear about why I was frustrated. Whilst I have no problem with eroticism in whatever form I do consider it to be "easy" in that it's designed to titillate and little more. I was frustrated that a group of developers who have made well known titles were making this game when they could be coming up with really interesting story/gameplay ideas.
This duder: @winternet: made a really good reply by saying that "a) veteran game designers doesn't mean good game designers" and I cant disagree with him.
And in response to the arguments about sex in video games (summed up best by @jouseldelka) "the problem is people like you who perpetuate this ridiculous belief that sexuality is disgraceful and exclusive to gamers and 'nerds.'" - I repeat, In no way do I think that sexuality is disgraceful or exclusive to gamers and nerd, buts I do think it's an easy medium and a waste of talent for an experienced developer to spend time working on.
I'd be interested to hear an argument that Sex games serve a purpose beyond "boobs" and that we should get more talented game devs on them!
More power to them, I'm honestly surprised that it took this long. There is a very real audience for this kind of stuff, it should be embraced as another genre of games as far as I'm concerned. Let them have what they want, I mean hell, Skyrim already has Rift support, no way these developers can come up with something more lascivious than the modding community.
@gamer_152: I wonder how much that image would be improved if erotic games became a real genre with real money behind it? I don't know if it's even possible but if that sector of the audience is catered to, maybe there wouldn't be as big a reliance on those stereo types across the board?
@jbird: While I disagree with a few points here and there, I'm more or less on your side concerning this topic. Yes, in theory and out of context, an erotic adventure game on the Oculus Rift could be compelling sure, but has anything besides maybe one or two adventure games in the entire history of this medium justified trusting this to be a good product? I for one think not. Too many character designers either do what's been done before or deliberately titillate the audience when given the chance and purely as a function of inflation I'm getting less and less tolerant of it.
If it's not a game worth playing, and if it's not a game that does anything to buck the obvious of "hey fellas, bit titties" then what reason do I have to give this the time of day? Caveats that any game is unproven until release aside, past evidence shows no reason to be confident or expect that a given team of developers can make something worthwhile fitting the description of the article. It's a bold proposition when so much in the past indicates it won't live up to the ideal of a truly compelling erotic experience. Given the budget constraints, I highly doubt they can get the quality of writing, programming, and design into the place to make the immersive experience I would want out of it.
Long story short, I give this a long chance in hell of being anything other than a shitty Japanese-style hentai dating sim. If I already don't give a shit about porn games, then I probably won't care about this. Prove me wrong so-called veteran game developer. Still, can't fault the person for seeing an opportunity in the market and seizing it.
Sex sells, everyone knows and the internet lives off it, so something like this is inevitable but this particular quote is infuriating, "veteran game designers who worked on the likes of Rage, the Call of Duty series, Lost Planet, Madden and Planetside 2 are working on an "Erotic Adventure" game for Oculus Rift." Whatever your views on said games, why are talented and experienced developers wasting their time on making a cheap thrill? We have the Wii U, the PS4, the Xbox One and the potential behind the Oculus rift itself! It is a shame that such talent is going to waste.
WHAT!? HOLD ON!!
You're telling me that people experienced in their industry found a niche in the market created by new technology and want to MAKE MONEY? OH. MY. GOD.
So would you blame great film directors for moving into the porn industry in the 80's and 90's?
Stop trying to shove your moral outlook into everyone else's decisions. You know what decides if that talent goes to waste? The market. And I bet you "sexy time oculus rift" is going to sell like hot cakes. Modern Warfare hotcakes.
I've always been surprised how porn hasn't been able to penetrate (pun intended) the gaming market. There clearly are some technical limitations related to running out of hands while holding a controller, but I would honestly and unashamedly be interested in seeing an adult experience on a videogame system.
And like @video_game_king and @jams already mentioned an industry filled with "murder simulators" can't be this freaked out by pornographic content.
First off this was inevitable and secondly I think it could be cool anyways. I watched their prototype video they have and its interesting that they are actually putting some real production value on this thing even opting to have a lady mocap the pole dance that they used in the tech demo video.
I don't think there is any reason to be ashamed or turn away from erotic material in games. Its the same as violent games some people are okay with the hyper violence. If you don't like violent games there are plenty without it. Some people like to explore eroticism and its role in games and I happen to think that's fine. At least its looking to be a classier affair then something like Sexy Beach Zero which I've played my fair share of.
porn drives innovation, to stifle porn is to stifle creativity, look at DVD's and the internet.
Yep. This is proven phenomena over and over. And over and over and over and ov... *ahem!* Just recent examples, porn industry was on the bleeding edge for video sharing, video compression, flash video browser plugins, flash video players (skip functionality), gif previews on mouse cursor hover, higher quality resolutions, bandwidth speed (yes really). The internet as it exists now has much to thank the porn industry for. I doubt the tech would have progressed quite so quickly without it.

Hi Duders, The above link is to a short IGN article about an erotic adventure game for the oculus rift. What do we think about this here at Giantbomb? Personally I think its an embarrassing headline for the games industry. I recognise that the crossover between "gamer" and "horny fucking bastard" is probably quite large but It is a shame that when our industry has so many things to get excited about something like this rears it's ugly head.

Thoughts community?!
Where do I begin...
What's wrong with a depraved adult game for adults if it's a quality product? Are you aware of the existence of porn?
"Sex sells, everyone knows and the internet lives off it..." I'm pretty sure the other half of the world which remains blissfully unaware of the internet is also equally horny, because, you know, humans and the way we were designed/the way we evolved in order to continue to exist. Until *censored for video game internet board* Rod A finds slots A, B, or C, that biological urge exists in all human beings who aren't asexual.
The article supplies so little information that I might agree with you, because it's easy to draw the conclusion that it will be a really stupid game based on other "mainstream" attempts at porn games, but there's an industry for AO games waiting to be tapped by an actual adult crowd (no pun intended). There's a glut of talent in the industry, and if a small fraction of it has a good idea on how to make a tasteful adult game, there's no harm in it unless you're a "Mass Effect is a sex simulator" level prude.
*Let me again disclaim that I might just be talking about the concept as a whole rather than just this game, as I can find so little information about it to make a decision as to its specific quality at this point. Likening it Leisure Suit Larry doesn't help in the slightest, but I only hope that's nothing more than a line to draw in the closest parallel in a world where the adult game was shunned to obscurity outside of Asia.
THIS IS THE NICE THINGS.
I imagine combining the Oculus with that device that wirelessly connects a dildo with an onahole would be pretty amazing......
Oh yeah:
THIS IS THE NICE THINGS.
It's another case of reality emulating science-fiction. Also, in the future all restaurants will be either Pizza Hut or Taco Bell, depending on what part of the world you'll live in.

I'm pretty excited. As other people have said it's a bit odd that a solid 40% of games have us maiming and murdering people, yet the prospect of an "erotic adventure" shocks and disgusts you. In fact, I'm disgusted by your reaction.
Let me know when Japan starts developing eroge for the Oculus Rift. That is something I could get into.
o god. Now this NEEDS to happen.
Well, I think I can say this with certainty about an Oculus Rift erotic game, it will make for an awkward TNT show.
I'm actually impressed. Giant Bomb typically leans extremely prudish, I expected a circlejerk of moral guardians in here. Especially with the "what will the mainstream think about us!" Usually that kind of group message stirs the moral outrage up in people. Honestly, I am actually impressed.
So allow me to add to the chorus and say that porn exists, people are entitled to make it and people are entitled to enjoy it. Sex is something people enjoy and not some aberrant behaviour that must be ghettoized and shamed. You wouldn't run around slapping copies of Fifty Shades of Grey out of the hands of women, why would you do it for this Rift game?
Besides, it won't be as good as Bible Black anyway.
I don't see the problem personally with the sex industry embracing new technology. They are already in books, magazines, movies and "normal" games, so why not?
And if you think this is bad, just you wait until we holodecks are invented!
