What is 2014 the Year of?

2012 was the Year of the Bow. 2013 was the Year of Luigi. What is 2014 the Year of? How about... Chie?

Chie is not good enough for a whole week, let alone a year.

@donchipotle: Think of it this way. There are 3 Persona 4 based products coming next year. Though actually, come to think of it, I have no idea if they're coming to America or not next year. Still 3 games makes a good argument for a year of Chie. I think.

• Persona 3 Movie #2 (Summer release in Japan)
• Persona 4: Dancing All Night (Fall release in Japan)
• Persona 5 (Winter release in Japan)

And who knows if anything else is going to be announced. Atlus is doing this specifically because of their 25th anniversary in 2014, too.

The Year of Luigi wasn't because of his presence in new Mario games but because of his own games like the new Luigi's Mansion and the Luigi specific DLC and also there is Dr. Luigi. If Chie was getting her own string of games, sure, this analogy would fly, but in games about Persona 4 it's an ensemble. Its more a year of Persona in general than a year specifically about one single character. The worst character at that.

@donchipotle: Do you not consider Mario 3D World as part of Year of Luigi? I think that the games don't have to be explicitly about Luigi to be part of the spirit. Also many games in the Year of the Bow did not star the Bow. It featured prominently, but was not the star!

Also you think Chie is the worst character. I strongly disagree. Strongly.

As far as I'm concerned, 2014 is "The Year of Dark Souls II".

Year of Luigi was a silly marketing term because it was Luigi's 30th birthday/debut. Mario 3D world is loosely tied to it because it has Luigi Bros and Luigi Sightings. Year of Luigi was literally all about Nintendo releasing a fuckload of content about or featuring Luigi, like a Luigi specific soundtrack, Luigi artbooks, 3DS Miis wearing Luigi hats, a Luigi coin and green bag, etc. And Reggie has already said that 2014 is also the Year of Luigi.

So until there is a bunch of Chie specific content, and more than what is already out because I'm sure there's a bunch of Chie stuff (along with the other cast of Persona 4 and Persona 3) then it's not the year of Chie. It could be the year of Persona, but that's all encompassing of 3 and 4 so one could easily call it the year of Mitsuru or the year of Fuuka.

I saw that actually. I refuse to accept that. That's terrible. That's not how fucking years work. You can't have two motherfucking Years of Luigi. That's now how years work! The year of Luigi is ending and nothing short of time travel can change that far as I'm concerned.

She is the worst of the main crew to me. It's probably because she likes steak and kung fu. I much prefer pork and drama.

The Year of Luigi is actually a fiscal year, so it doesn't end right at the start of 2014. In other words, we still have a bit more time to figure out what 2014 is the year of.

I think the biggest issue of 2014 is going to be full-priced games with F2P-levels of microtransaction nonsense going on. I don't know what to call that other than "The year of bullshit."

All I can say is that 2014 is shaping up to be my 2014 Year of the Year.

Yep. Hopefully those games turn out good though. Destiny, Titanfall, those racing games and such. But I also hope we see some really good no multiplayer whatsoever games like Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3.
