Halo: Reach sitting at 235 hours
Second place goes to either Halo 3 or Rift
Note I still have the urge to go sit in BRD in WoW and just wander around and get lost for hours; only took 180 kills for Ironfoe to drop. But BRD is sort of other-worldy in its awesomeness and spending a year real-time there seems perfectly sane next to the incredibly boring instance design post Vanilla. But that's just 1995-2004 Blizzard vs. modern Blizzard, no comparison. I haven't played WoW in almost 5 years, but BRD still has my heart like Grigori in Dragon's Dogma.
My most played game in recent memory would have to be Halo 3. I put in a good 300+ hours in multiplayer alone. I'm also pretty sure I played Twisted Metal 2 every day for about a year when I was a kid so I guess that would be a close second.
As far as franchises go, Mass Effect cost me 240+ hours that I will never get back. I think I'm okay with that.
My most played game is probably Pokémon Diamond. I remember having logged nearly 500 hours into that game.
It would either be Super Smash Bros Melee or Rome Total War. I don't know how many hours I've put into those games, but I really can't think of any other game I spent more time on. Maybe I played more Melee.
Got to be one of the Pro Evo Soccer's on the PS2 probably 4 or 5.
With all the master league and multiplayer sunk into that I would be very surprised if the hours count didn't break 4 figures.
Either Rock Band 2 or 3, or just the whole series if counted that way. Besides that, my combined playthroughs of either FFVII, VIII, IX or X probably beat that. I know I've got a least one file of FFX sitting at 150 hours.
According to Raptr.com which I've had since 2009, my top game is Tf2 with 320 hours. But I'm sure most of that is idling so it doesn't count. My real most played game is Super Street Fighter IV with 208 hours. Man, I loved that game.
Probably Lumines II, with about 120+ hours.
That's nothing compared to some of you crazy motherfuckers O_o

WoW. Ruined my life entirely. I'm still picking up the pieces.
Pretty much this. It's super depressing to think about the things I've missed out on because of that game.
It'd be hard to pick a specific game as I have a few that are up there, but I'd say the top five would be DayZ, Sins of a Solar Empire and Civ V (if you count their standalone expansions), NHL 12 (almost all on Be A Pro mode, I think I was up to the 2025 season...), and Red Alert 2 (I spent countless hours modding the RA2.exe (?) file). Although I'm an anger induced hiatus from DayZ and I haven't got the resolution to cooperate when running RA2 on Dosbox (works fine on my laptop monitor, but won't scale properly when using it on my TV), the other three still see quite regular action.
This Damn Pc Game. I just added up all my played time *days, hours, minutes* on all of my characters. So far 423 days and 16 hours.. = 10165 hours in total logged into this game. I may not have been sitting at my pc playing, but it was logged in which it has a 30min afk timer now but used to be 1hour. I honestly Think this is never be done by me again as this took dedication that made me miss to much time with friends. Either way, I still play here and there. Also, I started this game in junior high, which at the time was ok to spend this much time playing :D
Hard to say, there are some older games that I feel like I put more time into than I actually did. But my guess will be either TF2 or one of the pokemon games.
WoW 900+, Counter Strike 700+, Final Fantasy XI 500+
Final Fantasy XI, in retrospect...NOT time well spent. In fact, I just had the terrifying and sobering realization that Raptr wouldn't have counted my time spent on the PS2 version of FFXI and I know I spent a considerable amount of time with the PS2 version, So FFXI likely actually beats WoW on the time spent front.
I have 830 hours in Team Fortress 2, but I also played a bunch of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy multiplayer when it still had a good community. Probably nowhere near that much, though.
This generation it has been LittleBigPlanet. I spent a metric shit ton of time with that game.
Other games I recall spending too much time in include Super Smash Bros Melee, The Sims, The Sims 2, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Midnight Club: Street Racing, Pokemon Sapphire and Fire Red, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Crash Bandicoot Warped, Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22, Spider-man and 4x4 Evolution.
Probably Final Fantasy XI for the two years I played it I probably had around 700 hours on it. I also played Fallout 3 a ridiculous amount of times as well. Only so many hundreds of hours you can listen to three dog until you're ready to blow your brains out. Could be one of the reasons why I didn't take to New Vegas as hot as I did Fallout 3.
The top 4 have to be:
Diablo II
World of Warcraft
combination of DotA/HoN/Dota 2
Team Fortress 2
TF2 being the lowest with over 1000 hours, and working my way up the list from there.
WoW and Counter-Strike Source. Both in excess of 1000 hours.
Single player only it would probably be Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Completed 4 times at 100% which right there is about 200 hours in total. And then i continued to play it just driving/riding/flying around for countless hours.
The highest game clock I have is Pokemon Soul Silver at 232 hours, but I doubt I was actually playing for all of that. I bet there are a couple games I've played more as well, but it's tough to get a definitive number on them because I'd have to account for multiple playthroughs.
Edit: Actually the game clock says 349 hours. I'd say the majority of that was just ev training while I watched TV though.
Morrowind most likely I had game saves on both the xbox and PC going to well over 500 hours each.
Although I never had a timer on how much I played Tony Hawk 1 (I 999 999 999'd every level) I imagine that was many hundreds. and Yeah minecraft has just been on for days straight at certain times.
Setting aside WoW, probably either Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn or Halo 2. I remember BG2 swallowing up the entire summer of 2001... for context, I was playing it when the WTC fell. And I put endless hours into Halo 2's multiplayer, by far more than any other shooter.
In my college career, Killing Floor since I can play a level till I die solo then go back to my work.
Dark Age of Camelot. My first level 50 took me 36 days played. And that was just my first, I played the game for four years after that. Other than that, I recently checked my time played in World of Tanks and realized I'm at around 400-500 hours played in that game. Addictive.
I believe Diablo II.I wish I could see how many hours, and the thing is that I'm still playing it from time to time.
