For myself, I am thinking probably Ocarina of Time. Or the latest Pokemon if it is still around.
When you have a child, what'll be the first game you show them?
Something simple...
Probably those weird educamathingymabob games.
Or I dunno, something from Nintendo probably. Super Mario Bros. was the first game I touched after all.
Super Meat Boy and Morrowind.
I will bother the shit out of him until he finishes Super Meat Boy, and then let him loose on Morrowind.
I'm an arse.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.
I kid.
On a more serious note I'd probably show him/her Link's Awakening DX or Sonic the Hedgehog. The former because it's the first game I ever owned, the latter because it's the first game I ever played.
It would have to be an all-time classic, with a rich legacy and lasting influence on the games industry as a whole. I'm thinking maybe RapeLay.
" @LiquidPrince said:What? No? That Kinect sex game actually..." Nothing too obvious. "So what? Rapelay? "
Based on her estimated birth date, she'll probably be watching me play a lot of MvC3 and SCII which I'll be falling back on due to Summer doldrums.
It's not because we grew up with Sonic and Zelda games that it's what kids today would like to see. In our time, we didn't have a lot of choice. Why would a kid be interested in an ugly-ass game like the NES titles when there's technological marvels around? We just like those NES games out of nostalgia, not out of gameplay.
Anyways, to answer the question, i'd probably get my children the game that he or she has the more interest in, and that would probably be a movie tie-in.
You start with simple games that doesn't instruct your child to destroy your enemy in bloody shreds. I'm just using common sense.
The one that I really remember is that my daughter started trying to play Morrowind at 3 years old, because I was playing it at the time. I don't remember though if that's the first one she touched or anything like that.
That being said, I'm sure I introduced her to various Mario Bros. early on. I remember Spyro being big for her too when she was little. Sonic held up until a year or two ago.
Probably some children's game, since they are a child. But if you mean when they are ready to see games geared for older kids... who knows? If my NES works, I might hook that up for him and let him play Mario. Maybe some Atari games on my 2600 to start with, since the controls are simple. Maybe my future wife will say "Our hildren will never play video games." But why would I marry her? Please tell me why I would marry a lady like that. She better be amazingly hot.
deleted it, carry on with your discussion (:
IF i was ever to have a kid, his first game when he's 6 would be the new Kirby game. Half-Life 2 when he's 12 and Max Payne when he's 15.. then maybe Crysis when he's 18
I'd chuck 'em an old SNES and Mario All Stars, probably. It's not like they'd care about getting the latest thing at that age and that's a pretty cool one to start on.
Probably Whatever the newest mario or kirby game is then possibly followed by Pokemon, Tetris and Galaga ( I will be damned if any kid of mine does not like Galaga)
Ya know, I would probably have said some kid friendly game in here or whatnot, but my son turned 3 in January and when I loaded up MvC2 in anticipation for the latest one he was transfixed by the super heroes he watches on tv. I gave him the controller after asking him who he wanted on his team (every time he picks it's just one person i.e. Hulk, Hulk, Hulk and Iron Man, Iron Man, Iron Man) then let him get his ass beat by the merciless computer or put him in training against the biggest cartoonish guy I can find. He has a blast, so I'm thinking of other games to introduce him to now that he's taken interest, even though I know he'll pester the hell out of me to play some MvC3 when I pick that up Tuesday.
Probably a Mario game. Mario games were the first games I played, and will be the first video game they play.
Super Mario and Donkey Kong Country were the first games that hooked me so I guess I'd go with those.
