Which games in your opinion have the best set of characters?

 I'm not referring to the storyline, I just want to know what games do you think have the most memorable and awesome characters.
 
For me it has to be
 
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, Final Fantasy X, Mass Effect 1, GTA Vice City and there's probably some more which someone else will list.

i wish i could say Red Dead Redemption, but something about Irish and Reyes didnt click with me =/

Both L4D games. The character development in both games is so natural and great, which is very impressive since they are both multiplayer games.

Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, and Persona all have memorable characters in all the games

Dragon Age for me. During my first play through I only really found Alistair, Shale and Morrigan to my liking. However I decided to fill my party out with some other characters during my second and third playthroughs and loved most of them. Especially the dialogue between Sten and Dog, and I also love Oghren. 
 
Though I find the characters from most Bioware games to be fairly memorable like Darth Revan and HK-47.

Mass Effect 1, 2

These, as they've the best EVERYTHING:

Half life has few but very memorable characters such as Barney and Father Grigori

Deadly Premonition!!!

Grand Theft Auto IV (just IV) or Ratchet & Clank. They just have the most memorable protagonists and antagonists, repsectively.

I'm a huge fan of almost any character Rockstar has ever created. At least from GTA 3 and forward. Don't have much experience with their games previous to that.

And the rest of those awesome, well received and well known games such as GTA IV, Mass Effect and so on and so forth.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2... I can't think of any other games where the characters were worth a damn.

Persona 4. :)

Metal Gear Solid in general. But particularly the PS1 game.

Metal Gear Solid 1-4. With the exception of Snake Eater, they all have some of the greatest boss characters ever designed. The heroes aren't bad either.

San Andreas or Rachet and Clank 

Final Fantasy XIII. Yeah, SUCK IT HATERS!!!!

Am I the first to say Uncharted?  The guys from Bad Company are pretty good, too.  Half-life 2 has some good ones as well.

I think I'll have to go with Bioshock

The guys from Bad Comapany were awesome, but the characters from Metal Gear Solid 4 were amazing. It was my first (and so for only,) MGS game.

Even though Portal's script is just an extended monologue, it really fleshes out a character that you can't see and when you do, can't even facially emote. That's good script writing.

Also, I've grown attached to most of the Resident Evil characters as well after playing each game like 5 times....

Persona 4, Strange Journey, Deadly Premonition, Plants Vs. Zombies

Tetris.

Mass Effect 2, Lost Odyssey, Silent Hill 2, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Jet Set Radio Future

Probably the Metal Gear series for me and how each and every single one of them concluded alongside each other. 

Of course Street Fighter 2

With Nostaligia Factor: Final Fantasy VI (aka Final Fantasy 3 for SNES)
Recent: Mass Effect or Dragon Age - any recent Bioware game will do  GTA IV and RD:R make the list too.
 
Honorable mention: Roger Wilco from Space Quest - nobody dies with more style. Monkey Island et all Lucasarts Adventures.

Most final fantasy games and I like the characters from Dragon Quest 8

Monkey Island dudes are cool and definitely metal gear characters

Mortal Kombat, Abe's Oddysee and SotC.

Monkey Island has Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate™

back on topic: its the Metal Gear franchise for me, always did love it, Two moments or characters stick out for me which are The boss from MGS3 and the whole sacrifice story arc. And Snake, the moment in MGS4 where he is in the microwave corridor actually made me feel guilty for playing the game and making the character going through the pain of being boiled on the inside.
