Which member of the bombsquad's play style is most like yours?
I consider myself pretty close to Patrick, honestly. He likes reading into narrative subtext and concentrates on the way stories are delivered and games, as well as wastes his time playing a bunch of dumb indie art games.
That's kind of me.
Patrick, I play a game to completion. I care more about beating the game than achievements/trophies (but I do care more than he does, just a little bit). Single player is all I really care about. I'm willing to put up with sub par gameplay if the story is worth it.
I wish I was more like Vinny and looked for the good in everything, or at least the fun in fucking around.
What exactly are the playstyles of Ryan and Jeff? I don't find them as easily defined as the rest of the crew.
I'd say my tastes skew more Jeff's and Vinny and my abilities skew more Brad. I like what I like but I'm usually pretty terrible at most of it. And Patrick's tastes are way to esoteric for me most times.
I picked Vinny because he and I are similar in that we want to collect everything. Skill wise, Jeff I guess.

All I remember about Ryan's play style is that he was really good at not noticing the UI. Mainly his character's health bar.
As far as Jeff, no clue. Maybe that he prefers first person shooters or shooters in general and plays them on consoles. Or that he plays first person shooters on the PC with a controller. So, a monster.
brad. i suck and get ridiculed for it. so i find him a kindred spirit. :)
e: also i'm kinda bad at committing myself to playing/finishing games. ;)
Probably Vinny, his dark soul's playstyle is really similar to mine. Big fan of the fat roll.
I suppose I like collecting things as well, but only when I think said things are neat and the game is built for marathon sessions.

Yeah don't really see how to define a few of these really. For Jeff all I can think of is that he plays games in very long stretches it seems.
Vinny in play style (dang collectibles and checking every corner), Brad in general selection of games (though he's dropped off the JRPG train somewhat in recent years), Ryan in mastery curve (start very strong but never really stick with a game long enough to get amazing) and I'm finding I agree with Jeff on a lot on things as I get older (though we shall forever be at odds over Yoshi's Island). I also admire Patrick's occasional detours into unfamiliar video game territory, and have tried to incorporate that philosophy more often when choosing new games to play (bundles and Steam sales make that easier, because you usually get a mix of everything).
The one person I really do not identify with whatsoever game-wise is Drew. But then I appreciate that man's mystique.
I picked Vinny at first because my tastes are most similar to his and I enjoy being a completionist and breaking games. However, i'm probably more like Brad; i'm terrible at most games, obsessive about collectables and get easily frustrated.
I want to say Vinny, but I'm not as big on collectables. I'm big on min/maxing things though and if I remember right Jeff tends to do that a lot? So I guess a mixture. I really don't know how to define a lot of these guys though other than Vinny likes his collectables and Brad tends to die in funny ways.
I'm more of a Vinny with a side of Patrick. I'm the kind of guy who wants to see everything a game has to offer, and while it's extremely difficult for me to start playing a new game, I often find myself unable to put it off until completion. I was more of a Brad when I was younger, though.
I'm OCD and a completionist in games, so naturally had to choose Brad. Wish I played more like Vinny though.
No one in the crew seems good at figuring out gameplay systems and that's what I'm good at. I used to be like Vinny but I've moved away (I'm pretty sure he did too) from that pointless completionist nonsense.
I'm gonna say brad. No, i'm not "bad at games" neither do i think brad is.
He likes nuance and appreciates details. He goes after collectables until they become too bothersome, and really likes to explore.
Granted i don't think any of them quite fit my playstyle. I'll purposely handicap myself if i feel a game is too easy. Assassin Creed games i avoid upgrading anything at all costs. In Skyrim / Fallout i will only carry what is realistic. (a rifle, a handgun and a knife for weapons in fallout for example).
In RPG's i like to roleplay a character, so what i'd do isn't necessarily what my character would do. I'll make my choices on what my character would do instead even when i know the outcome won't be as good for me.
I play most games on hard, and will often replay games i like multiple times.
So yeah, i'm really nothing like any of them to be honest.
About a 1/2 lb of Jeff
8 tbsp of Patrick
12 cups of Brad
4 oz of Vinny
Put in the oven at 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes
Jeff all the way. My tastes more or less map to his as well. I'm very critical-pathy and I don't stop for nothin
Where is the Dave option? RPG's, fool, and wizards/ flashier gameplay, and wanting to see most of the lore and content. I guess Vinny if I cant pick Dave.
None of them since they have a tough time paying attention to a story if there's text involved.
My play style is:
- Not as hesitant as Brad
- Not as bent on destruction of the game as Vinny
- Not as confident as Jeff
- Not as carefree as Patrick
- Haven't seen Drew play a real game (kidding)
Maybe Dave.
I like to stop and smell the roses in video games.
@yummylee: Infiltrator for Life. Got me through Insanity in 2 and 3.
I love exploring environments. I greatly appreciate rock-solid gameplay and level design. I like a good story, until it gets in the way of the game. I enjoy collecting things, unless it's a pain in the ass. (pain in the ass =/= challenging) I FUCKING HATE tutorials, hand-holding, and drawn out intros that get in the way of me playing the game.
Who am I closest to?
Vinny was a vanguard in Mass Effect right? So Vinny.
How could you not be a vanguard. Madness.
Vanguard master race reporting in.

Adept's pretty great, too! Hell, they all have something to offer... except Soldier. Fuck soldier, buncha generic boring bleh.
Jeff and Brad played through the entirety of the Mass Effect trilogy as a Soldier. Think about that.
I honestly don't say they match up to any of my playstyles, because I actually have time to enjoy video games instead of having to play every single one that comes out.
@arbitrarywater: Oh, I have... amidst long stormy nights, as I rock side to side while sucking my thumb.
@yummylee: FORUM EATIN MAH POST
EDIT: I'm sort of done playing as the generic human warrior, the Ryu, the all-around in my video games (unless the All around is the D&D 2nd ed. Fighter/Mage/Thief). Specialists are far more fun.
Definitely a mix of Brad and Patrick, in that I love getting all the extra narrative stuff out of a game that I can and I love to examine the narrative of a game, but also I am absolutely terrible at games unless I put a lot of work into a specific one.
Probably Vinny. He plays games, even ones he'd borrowed or got from work, like he owns them. He plays for fun but also has a mad completionist streak.
Definitely not Jeff or Brad. They go nuts on certain games and don't like or play a lot of the games I do. I've never had a game addiction like Brad with DOTA and I'm far more willing to let a game be what it is rather than get made at it for not being what I want it to be like Jeff. And Jeff just seems so, so down on games in general and has for years.
I respect Patrick's willingness to try new things and really try at it. I can see a little bit of myself in his tastes.
Ryan ability to commit to a game but still see it's fault is like me too.
I totally get Drew's love of simulations, even if I don't play them.
And where is the Alex option? I think he's a bit like Ryan... he can criticise a game but still show a lot of love for it.
But really, as the years roll on I'm struggling to find ANYONE to identify with that's part of the Giant Bomb crew.
They all suck too much for me to have a similar playstyle to any of them. Also, I can read, so that's all of them out of the window again.
lol pretty much this.
