Don't hold back! World, the time has come to...
Fireworks time!
Inappropriate lyrics for a family event.
Olympi-gate.
I love how the announcer speaks almost perfect French but names come out in his English accent.
@JerichoBlyth: Definitely a let down after everything else. At least they're playing a decent song now.
It has been an amazing ceremony (with exception to the Arctic Monkeys dulling everything a bit...surely the visuals and an instrumental version of their songs would have done the piece justice) and I have to say that, personally, I feel that it was much better than Beijing....and lets face it, that was a mighty high measuring stick as far as coordinated ceremonies go. But this was the most entertaining piece of television that I have witnessed in years.
I feel like I"m going to miss anything I'd want to watch because of how much of a pain it is to figure out what channel and what time something is going to be on TV, or, if it's going to be on TV at all. Since time blocks for the Olympics pretty much just say "hey, this starts at 6am and goes until 4pm, and these are maybe the events that this channel are covering but we're not going to say in what order or at what time during that 10 hour time block."
Ever since reading The Dark Tower by Stephen King every.time I hear Hey Jude I think about a post apocolyptic saloon full of mutant inbreds.
In the morning, the competition begins! With one of the first medal bearing events being the cycling Men's 260km Road Race. An early chance for British gold as Great Britain has a 5 man team working to get the race to end in a mass sprint. Mark Cavendish is the favourite in this scenario, but other big names could and probably will attempt a breakaway during one of the Box Hill circuit climbs. Any non-sprinter in the peloton will try to break and stay away for any hope of a medal. But with a 50km flat section after the last climb of Box Hill, Team Sky, oops I mean Team Great Britain, will try to reel in the leaders.
I'm really bummed that Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin are not on the USA Women's Gymanstics team. They were killing it in Beijing in 2008.

Yeah, unfortunate for both of them. Nastia didn't do very well in the qualifying event, and Johnson retired because of constant knee problems. Another gymnast I was rooting for was Alicia Sacramone. She qualified just fine, she just wasn't named in the team.
As for the opening ceremony, well...the intro and Mr. Bean were my personal highlights (I guess the Queen and James Bond as well).
I've said this before, but fuck NBC.
I was surprised at how well the opening ceremony turned out, I figured it was just going to be compared to Beijing over and over again but im actually quite proud of GB now.
My only complaints would be that the Queen could have at least tried to muster up a bit of enthusiasm, especially when the cameras cut to her as Team GB came out and she was messing with her nails or something. The other complaint would be that I was still hoping they would get David Tennant to light the torch :P
I'll probably watche Judo, Karate, Swimming, Skeet, Football and of course Tennis...Team USA ALL THE WAY
