are you a smoker?
Depends on what kind of smoking you are referring to, cigarettes or something along the lines of pot?
If cigarettes, yes I do smoke and it's probably been one of if not the worst decision I have made in my life time. Unfortunately, it was one of those "matter of time" when I started due to the fact that my father smoked, both my older siblings smoked, and my good mate I hung out daily smoked.
If pot, no, for various reasons.
Been a "second-hand smoker" my entire life. That, combined with my left-handedness, means my life is more of a countdown timer than anything else.
Cigarette smokers disgust me. I can barely stand hanging out with them. Going into a store or restaurant, they gotta smoke first. You wait around. Leaving a store or restaurant they gotta smoke first. You wait around. Sitting inside somewhere too long they get all agitated. They say it relaxes them. They need it for stress. Bullshit. The cigarette created that need. They are not relieving stress. They're just coming back to a normal level. It's sad and pathetic. That's not to mention the obvious and plentiful health problems with it.

Here, let me make your day even worse. (It's okay, I'm in the same boat as you.)
I don't smoke but I don't go on a fucking "moral crusade" against those who do. Man can choose whatever he wants to do.

I can't help but wonder if the trend of less people smoking now vs 20 years ago has anything to do with the trend of more people to be overweight now. Everyone that I've ever know that has quit smoking usually puts on and keeps 20-30 pounds of body fat which is probably just as unhealthy as smoking.
My parents both smoked 3 packs a day up until I was well into my 20s, I've never once had a desire to even try it.
my feeling is if you enjoy it and don't mind that it increases health risks and can afford it, go for it. Personally, I'm a smoker. It's really more a result of an insidious past catching up with me! *Dramatic music*
Most cigarettes are grody; too many nasty additives. I do enjoy the hell out of the occasional cigar though.
Marijuana but I plan to stop smoking it and switch to exclusively vaping and/or eating it in baked goods.

Sounds like just a transference of an addiction, rather than overcoming it. But I would say there are many more other factors to higher obesity rate. A lot probably having to do with a failing economy and the cheapness and availability of junk food.
I am a smoker yes.
Also yes, I do enjoy smoking so sue me, world!*
*Don't sue me, you probably couldn't afford it
I smoke and love it! But I'm also well aware of my activites' impact on other people.
When walking down the street, I always make sure it's not bothering anyone, even to go so far as to hold smoke in my lungs until someone passing me has gone by. Also, it is addictive and can get a stupid hold on you if you're not careful, so I quit for a few months at a time every once in a while. @McGhee: Sorry dude, your friends are jerks if that's how it is. But that's not the entirety of smokers at all. I can easily go for a few days without even really thinking about smoking, because I never wanted to be that guy. People use smoking as an excuse for countless things, but they are always in control of their own actions.
Another thing though, smoking is incredibly relaxing. It's a fact. Tough it's probably more just being still and breathing deeply (which we really don't do unless it's intentional), rather than anything smoke-specific, but hey... a cigarette and coffee after a good meal is heavenly.
And of course, the default video for all of these smoking threads...

Get a Vaporizer, best purchase!
Yes, and plan to stop someday, but I enjoy it for now. Also, I just want to throw out a nice quick fuck you to the "no, because I'm not an idiot" responders I'm seeing here. Seriously, no one ever gets as high and mighty about overweight people who are clearly eating themselves to death.
I don't crave cigarettes, but I'll smoke one occasionally. I've been like that for years and I'll keep it that way. I've always liked pot more than tobacco, but I've completely switched to vaporizing since it tastes better and it's easier on the lungs.
Yes, though I understand why people don't.

I wish everyone had this same line of thought. There's nothing worse than telling people you smoke and having them act like they're better than you because they don't.

i used to be this way.
i fucking loved smoking. LOVED IT!
the first thing i did in the morning and the last thing i did before i went to bed was have a cigarette. as soon as i woke up i rolled 2 cigarettes and made a coffee and smoked them out of the window. i was prob smoking 20 -25 roll ups a day. and thought it relaxed me, i thought it relieved boredom, i thought it made me concentrate better. when ever i drank alcohol or when ever i had a meal or well any fucking excuse to smoke i smoked. and i smoked EVERYDAY for 20 years.
but in reality none of that was true. the only reason i ever smoked was because i was addicted to nicotine. the most addictive drug on the planet.
everything i thought smoking relieved smoking actually caused. the reason you find it relaxing is because you need nicotine. and every cigarette i smoked just created the need for the next one.
smoking is poison and has NO benefits or positives what so ever.
i stopped 13 month ago and have no desire to ever be a smoke again
Yes, 20+ years. It's interesting for young people today. Not smoking to the youth of today is just common sense, yet it's that way because of a vigorous anti-smoking campaign that really had no steam during my youth. What was once "cool" is now ignorant, gross, inconsiderate. It really is sad it took so long. Choosing to smoke, for a person of any generation, is indeed their choice, and you live with the consequences of that choice. That said, it really must be a nice bonus when the trying to "fit in", it's "cool", or peer pressure scenarios no longer apply today, making that choice a hell of a lot easier to make.
