Best guitarist of all time?
This question has been around forever and remains pretty pointless. There is no one greatest guitarist of all time, and there are a billion factors that you could or could not consider like technique, tone, charisma, originality, etc. That being said, what the fuck are Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Pete Townshend and The Edge even doing on this poll?
And you're clearly just thinking of blues and rock guitarists, because Django Reinhardt dusts all of these fools. I'm sorry Pete but "the windmill" is not a contribution to guitar playing everywhere.
Wes Montgomery. I say that for a couple of reasons. Primarily to be contrary to the poll options in this question but also to give some dap to one of my favorite jazz guitarists.

Also this.
Hendrix, but i love them all. Edge maybe not as much. Also Wes Montgomery is terrific. Also, i think this guy will be pretty good:
Paul Gilbert isn't on the list. Your poll is invalid. Neither is Joe Satriani or John Petrucci. What the hell bro?
Your list is pretty bad but Hendrix is my favourite up there. Some of the sounds he could make his guitar make were insane. I'm surprised Tom Morello hasn't got any mentions he's a decent technical guitarist and his inventiveness makes him one of my favourites. Also Randy Rhoads, Gary Moore, Tony Iommi and The Satch among many others all deserve to be on this poll.
Yeah, way too sparse of a list. Even if you just considered blues guitarists, leaving all other genres out, you left out such greats as Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson.
With the subjectivity of skill measurement among the respective genres, time periods, equipment available, trends, etc., I don't think you can really compare the top tier guitarists of any genre or time periods.
EDIT: Totally didn't realize Duane Allman was already on the list.
Jimmi Hendrix. Followed by Eric Clapton, then BB King, then Duane Allman.
And to name one not on your list: Slash is top 10 in my opinion.
And Bo Diddley deserves an honorable mention. He was the inspiration for the Rolling Stones and was one of the founders of rock and roll.
Sweet Child O Mine has one of the greatest intros of all time.
And let's not forget Bo Diddley

Eh, agreed.
There are some flamenco guitarists which are amazing, but you have to judge them on a whole different level. Search for paco de lucia he increible on YouTube if you want to see what I'm talking about.
I voted for Jimi Hendrix because I was curious about the results. Probably the best of this lot.
Such a myopically "classic rock" list, and you still missed Jeff Beck. He's kept evolving and teaching himself new things over the decades. No one can emulate the sounds he rips out of a Strat with his ten fingers and a whammy bar.
There are so many different styles of guitar play that is impossible to say the overal best. These are some of my favourites:
Rock - Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton
Jazz - BB King and George Benson
Funk - Eddie Hazel and Prince
