Do you like metal music? (Question of the Day 12-3-10)
" @BulletproofMonk: Good to see Opeth being mentioned this early in the thread. They certainly deserve it. I like a lot of bands that can be decribed as metal (as well as other genres of music of course), but Opeth are responsible for some of the greatest pieces of music of all time. Period. "man im glad to see some giantbombers love Opeth so much! last time i checked they were way ahead of any other band on my all time favorites list.. just all around epic and emotional and sorrowful and raging and brilliantly melodic, shifting tempos and sounds and attitudes for 10+ minutes a song and fucking sucking me in helplessly beyond imagination
You know, there are enough metalheads in the world for me to not care about 'converting' non metalheads, they can do their thing and we're doing just fine without them, it's just sad that they're missing out on the godly music that we were fortunate enough to stumble upon and enjoy for eternity .. Opeth takes all of your emotions and dreams and instincts to higher levels and makes you feel more than alive ! ok i'll stop now ^^
You said it! Truly special songwriting and musical talent. When I experienced my first live show and saw that they are even able to deliver their exceptionally complex songs in a live setting and retain the magic, I was absolutely convinced :)
" It's both my favorite and my preferred genre. Almost all I listen to really. "

" @Baal_Sagoth: @TaliciaDragonsong: @Aetheldod: we should all gather round and have an enormous headbanger hug "What about me? :(
I love metal, but generally only doom metal and NYDM. I used to like black metal and all that, but I grew out of it rather quickly.
The genre of music I love and play the most though is indie rock. Just something I prefer more, though a full listen of Realm of Chaos, Effigy of the Forgotten and Onward to Golgotha still sends shivers down my spine.
Ugh I hate when people say they listen to metal and list metalcore/nu metal. Groove metal is fine just because Pantera was amazing but shit like Parkway Drive, Atreyu, Linkin Park, Papa Roach etc is NOT metal." Pretty serious Metal fan.
Love me some metalcore, deathcore, groove metal or technical metal.
Currently listening to Parkway Drive
"
Anyways, yes I do enjoy it a lot. I used to be into death metal pretty primarily but now I have mixed that with alternative metal and such like Alice in Chains. I have been getting into stoner metal (doom metal) such as Black Sabbath and the Sword most recently.

" AHHHHH! THE DRUMS ROCK AND THE SKY WILL BLEED WITH SATAN! WE SLAY THE VIRGIN AND DRINK HER BLOOD! ...so yeah, I don't like that crap. "Silly ignorant GT5 fan.
I'm not a metal fan at all, I find the music really boring.
I especially dislike Megadeath, Disturbed and that stuff, the main thing that turns me off is vocals and boring grinding guitars.
The imagery associated is meh, I think dudes with long unwashed hair are silly.
"aside from ONE song, which I'm quite sure everyone here either hates it or has never heard of it,
the answer is a resounding NO, I HATE IT!! "
That song is about the heaviest I ever heard Crush 40 get.
As for the question itself, I've listened to Metallica, and I don't know whether System Of A Down counts, but I listen to more hip-hop and rap than most any other genre. Of course, we all need some musical variety every now and then.
As with pretty much all genres, some bands are amazing while others just couldn't be any worse...
But anyway, overall, yeah, I like it. Some bands such as Opeth, My Dying Bride and Iron Maiden actually rank among some of my favorites ever. Also, TooL is favorite band in the active :)
sorry, but your kind of wrong WickedFather, at least you still listen to the magic of those albums, and Metallica is the Greatest band, along with Black Sabbth and Led Zeppelin, and even Voivod. I quite enjoy metal, mainly thrash metal, but also love the 70s rock.
LOVE me some metal, especially Metallica Megadeth & Iron Maiden (respect the classics). Number of the Beast and For Whom the Bell Tolls are straight up awesome.
" Used to, still listen to Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets but metal is something you'll grow out of and your tastes with diversify. It's a good thing. "I don't agree with this at all. I'm 26 and pretty sure i'll still be listening to it well into my 30's. And it by no means is all I listen to, but it's my preferred genre by far. I also listen to a lot of Christian hip-hop, rock and pop.
" Why am I not surprised in the least by these results. Of course you all do, you beardy pony-tail loners, dressed in black, headphones constantly stuck in grimy ears, no hint of a smile ever creeping across your callous, washed-once-a-fortnight face, living in your own 'world of darkness' yet were you to ever come up against any real danger in life you'd be the first cowering in the corner, I bet whenever you go out you walk with stupidly long strides and an undeserved sense of purpose despite having no real destination, and you sit in at night with fucking Master of Puppets on a loop while arguing with pre-teens on forums about why mouse and keyboard will always be better than controllers. Morons. "Despite the obvious "U MAD!?" potential, this is about the most potently put together hate-post I've ever seen.
Damn.
