when someone says "it's so bad it's good." What they are really saying is
"Hey I actually like this thing, but I'm not going to admit it because that's not the popular or cool opinion to have."
If you like something like it fuck what other people think. I like a shit load of bad games and I don't hide behind some bullshit "Oh those games are so bad they are good."
No I genuinely like and enjoy them. This goes back to my everyone should play bad games blog, so I won't dwell on this.
Just don't hide behind bullshit excuses people.
I hate the term "it's so bad it's good"

It reminds me of when people talk about action films or something along those lines and describe them as 'mindless' or say '...as long as you leave your brain at the door...' as if to imply they only ever watch art films when they actually love The Dark Knight or for a film to just be pure entertainment means it has to be stupid.
I forgot to mention. What about about something so amusingly bad that it's funny? Would you take that? Because I assume that's what people mean when they say something is "So bad, it's good!"

" Oh look, a thread full of pedantic dickheads, what a change. I'm sick of the phrase "I only play games to have fun". Fun is such a stretched, meaningless term these days. "well technicality I suppose it's karma I'm a jerk and everyone is a jerk back to me so I suppose it all works out..
Trophyhunter, I love you man, but c'mon. Dumb thread is dumb.

I mean, when I'm playing a game I have a completely stoic or serious look on my face, but I still enjoy myself. Just because I'm not jumping out of my seat doesn't mean I'm not having a good time. Or maybe I'm not having a good day and I feel pretty shitty, but I can still absorb myself into a good game. Games have almost like an emotional neutralisation affect on me, which makes a nice change from misery.

I hate to be one of the people on this website that falls upon the word "Subjective" because it's a three syllable word, but I suppose it's appropriate. For the most part, unless it's a truly engaging, interactive and non passive experience, I fail to see how the tired old trope of "This is fun fun fun times" can be applied. I just wish gaming as a culture could get a new vocabulary.
Think your definition is a tad off.
To me, Uwe Bolls movies are so bad, theyre good. Why? Because I can laugh more at his bad movies than I can at 90% of the movies released every year, that INTENDED to be funny. I can laugh at their awfulness, and thereby enjoy them. If they were less bad, they would be boring and mediocre, and thus I wouldnt enjoy them at all.
There's nothing wrong with saying something is so bad it's good... I could go on and on, but I won't, because deep down, you know this to be true, and you're probably already regretting putting this up on the internet. Everyone's being a little tough on ya, but hopefully that'll teach you to think before posting on the internet. It's the world-wide-web, so unless you go to a specialized site like Giant Bomb (it's a website, about video games!) and proclaim "VIDEO GAMES IZ GOOD!!1!!" you're going to run into people who have conflicting views with yours. And when you bash a term so commonly used, particularly by the video game industry, in a video game website, you're gonna get bashed.
You're obviously just a kid, so I'll be gentle, and leave it at this: You have your opinion and other people have theirs. Telling them that their opinion is stupid is, well, stupid.
Edit: I also think you should give people a little more credit than instantly thinking they don't have the backbone to support a game that they enjoy. No one likes to be talked down to.
I don't think movies like plan 9 are well made but I find the gross incompetents humorous and entertaining, so I think so bad it's good fits that fine why can't the same work for everything?
" @Atlas said:Maybe instead of "fun", we should use the term "entertaining"? Although it doesn't roll off the tongue better than "fun" it does capture what you're feeling whether you are yelling and screaming about the last boss of an exciting game, or if you are looking serious in an online shooter trying to focus on sniping the other guy." Let us not forget that the reason we're all here, on this site that is, is because we all have a subjective appreciation for video games as an entertainment medium. Regardless of the semantics that are involved within us as a culture, this will always be the case. And let us also not forget that some people find having fun much easier than others. Sometimes I laugh out loud at games (that right, I typed out laugh out loud - fuck you, internet), but only a handful of games have that effect on me.

Everyone here can vouch for that.

Why? because do you have one, no you don't .
Also it sounds like really good engrish .
no, the phrase literally means what it means, nothing superficial about it. nobody in their right mind would ever seriously call uwe boll's alone in the dark a good movie in any way, however since it is bad in a funny way, therefore its so bad its good. nothing really more than that.
When people say a game is "so bad it's good" it usually is pretty bad. The main reasons why a person might like it are a) nostalgia (DP for example looks and plays like a last gen game), b) relaxation (no need to feel awed or inspired by a game, or work really hard to finish it), and c) comedy (the game has so many blatant faults that you can feel good by just sitting back and laughing at it). Would anyone play a game like Big Rigs for any of the above factors? Probably. Would anyone actually seriously consider a game like Big Rigs as deserving of GOTY or GDC Awards? No.
I actually really love my "that's million bucks" Why? because do you have one, no you don't . Also it sounds like really good engrish . "
Dude you should be proud of that, it's one of the funniest internet meme's i've ever heard. I've basically been in hysterics for the last five minutes. It's so bad it's good, eh?
" I think from now on, every time he makes a dumb topic this pic will haunt him. "No, I love it I'm the only giantbomb community member to have his own meme. Do you have one?...........didn't think so.
