I am looking for bands that are similar to Grizzly Bear, Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists or some good mellow, folksy independent stuff. Any of you guys have anything valuable to recommend?
Non of it fits the criteria you are asking for but Joe Bonamassa's new album is hella good.
"good mellow, folksy independent stuff."You pretty much just described Brightblack Morning Light. Although they're not good, they're excellent.
Pinback, Blitzen Trapper, Bon Iver, Built to Spill, Band of Horses, Deerhunter, Wilco, Iron & Wine, Phosphorescent, Beirut, DeVotchKa,...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beck (for folksy stuff check out Sea Change), and Elliott Smith.
I started listening the Silvesun Pickups, they're pretty damn good.
" @systech: Beirut...Sunset Rubdown's 2007 album...St. Vincent (She's the best thing that anyone can recommend you)...The Antlers...... I COULD GO ON FOR DAYS. I have a blog where weekly I post new music that I find, go check it out if you want more suggestions. "Bruce is basically the person to see for these kinds of bands.
"independent"I have to ask... why independent? Signed artists can't be good or something?
so you're asking for indie music .. not my style
EDIT: you can always use http://www.last.fm to see similar artists to those you like, and see what people who listen to the bands you named, listen to aswell .. very helpful music-similarity website !
" You might like Fleet Foxes. :) "Yeah they always remind me like a folkier Beach Boys or something. Great stuff.
I was going to jump in here and pimp my own music but I definitely don't write anything "folksy".
