Why are grown men without kids watching this show? Isn't it just supposed to be about teaching little girls about friendship, rainbows, love, giving and all that crap?

So it is just the furries turning there attention to a children's show?
Now it seems you're just being willfully ignorant.
Wait what? I'm still lost!
@believer258:
That link just raises even more questions!
@believer258:
What mean you? Keep in mind that my language also has a word for "man"; I don't see what point you make by turning this into a nationalistic affair.
@DarthOrange:
Look at the top of the page. If that doesn't do it for you, it may help to compare the MLP community to the Katawa Shoujo community, since I can't imagine it being any easier to tell people that you have real reasons for liking a game where you get to go into a toolshed and buttfuck a girl with no legs.
@DarthOrange: Well as a 21 year old male who loves some My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'll try to answer you. I and everyone else who like the show don't like it in an ironic way. It really is just a really good cartoon. I put it up there with Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc. of my time. It's really well written with excellent production values. The show has some jokes hidden in there for the adults but they aren't that frequent. Adults like it in the way adults like Disney, Pixar, and Studio Ghibli films.
Really the following for My Little Pony has only got this big because of this show and the way the internet took on to it. The simplest way I could describe the show is as an inverse Invader Zim. Where Invader Zim seemed to always have been made for teenage and college crowd to be liked in an ironic hidden meaning kind of way. My Little Pony is a genuine sincere feel good kind of kids show. The tone of the show is pretty much the opposite of the hate and vitriol filled state of the internet today which is probably why it has gained such an internet following. The pony memes are basically people fighting back against what the internet has become.

I am trying to wean her onto the far superior Powerpuff Girls with little success.
How? It's made by the same people. Or are you trying to wean her onto the "wait, that exists?" anime version?
@Video_Game_King: I am aware of that. I just don't think it is of nearly the same quality.
Just because Blade Runner is my favorite film does not mean I am not allowed to think Hannibal and Robin Hood are shitty movies.
Edit: Just wanted to clarify that I don't have anything against anyone who likes it. I respect their opinion. I just think they are a little crazy.
So is it a genuine love for the show like@Ryuku_Ryosake said or is it that people want to have intercourse with the ponies as said by @Video_Game_King?
@DarthOrange: Like others have said there is nothing Ironic about liking the show. It's just a very good cartoon, that is shockingly well written, charming, funny and just a good time. lots of people like adventure time as well, I see this as being no different.

OK, when the fucking hell did I say this? Point to the post where I said "MLP fans totally want to get face deep in Rainbow Dash pussy".

It was implied.

Well, I don't think it needs to be said.
But.
Rule 34.
So the whole, face deep in Rainbow Dash pussy thing.
Prolly accurate.

What, it can't be both? I kid, I kid. I'm pretty sure it's the former, which is actually what Video Game King said. The porn thing was him explaining the meaning of Rule 34, not his endorsement of that theory.
My sister, her boyfriend, and my best friend from high school are all way into this show. The first season was just added to Netflix, so I may give it a go.

I dunno, I don't get it. I'm a huge fan of animation and cartoons, but I have my standards.
I'm curious, where does this statement come from? Have you seen the show and don't like it or are you unfairly judging it?

I am all for people liking cartoons, pixar etc, but what I don't get is what MLP has going for it. The other shows you mentioned are great, but MLP just seems like one of those shows that tries to teach little girls about love, friendship, sharing and stuff like that.

And tramp stamps.

Yea, that's one of the things about the show that's always confused me. Why do these ponies have goddamn tramp stamps? (Another source of confusion is "Are there any male ponies on the show? Like, at all?".)

I thought that was a given, you can't have a kids show without tramp stamps.
I've watched enough to know that I don't like it. /shrug@Jrinswand said:

Edit: As an experiment, I googled "Bronies are weird" versus "Bronies are awesome." 8.5 million versus 1.2 million. The polls are in and the results speak for themselves.

Damn, would have figured you duders from giant bomb would be a little more open minded. Don't judge something without trying it, especially if you liked cartoons back in the day.
I could not resist.

I hear its on netflix, I'll try it out and report back tomorrow. This comes out on the hub right? That channel has some pretty damn good programs (Dan Vs as well as Goosebumps) but I don't know about My Little Pony.
Season 1 is on netflix, any episode you recommend?
Like every episode of the show is on YouTube. I tried to watch a whole episode and could barely make it past the theme song. I'm serious. I gave it my best shot.@ImmortalSaiyan said:

The first two episodes are a set up to the characters and world. If you just want to watch a episode that is a good indicator of the series at large I recommend episode 21.
My guess is that it started as an ironic thing some backwards group on the internet decided to do. From there on, I guess it caught on and shit-ton of people convinced themselves it was really, sincerely brilliant. I don't get it in any case, but I like that the show now has apparently started pandering to this new fanbase.
I was sick a couple weeks ago and watched through it all in a few days. It's pretty good. I enjoy the references too; one of the episodes ends the same way as Star Wars: A New Hope, while another episode has a character dressed as Darkwing Duck.

which is a better demographic: 18-34 year olds or little kids? who's more likely to buy merchandise? exactly. Even ironic love can have it's benefits as well
I can understand children watching something like this, but if you're over the age of 14 and you're a male...you need to rethink decisions you've made in your life.
The show encapsulates everything that makes Anime fun for fans (side note: another example of how "Japan Lost It/West Got it?"). Characters are textured to feature strengths and flaws, a setting and world that implies there is always something more around the corner, stories that are more complex than "Be good", and a surprisingly good level of technical production (looks good, sounds good). I recommend watching it especially if you have kids because you'll be surprised just how savvy it can be.
In general terms, I do think interest in MLP is part of a larger recent trend where people are embracing completely sincere shows and movies that are superbly, technically, and brilliantly executed. It is the same sentiment that eagerly embraces a movie like Captain America or The Muppets that basically go "Here we are and we totally mean what we say and do" and it is fun to watch.
I'm just saying it is similar underpinnings. I have said for years people watch Anime because they desire stylish animation that is more complex than the usual kid show. I am saying that people watch this show because it is stylish animation that is more complex than the usual kids show.
