So I've just watched J.K Rowling's announcement and boy am I excited!
I've been a huge fan of the books since they were launched (11 years ago already mind you) and have not turned back soon. Constantly re-reading, listening to and watching anything to do with Harry Potter! This announcement comes as somewhat of a surprise as well as somewhat of a relief that J.K is re-visiting the Harry Potter universe but not as we know or would expect!
If you don't know what I'm on about head HERE or HERE to find out more!

i heard about this last week a few days after having camped overnight for midnight tickets for the 8th movie. mind you, i did so with 2 other friends and we got balcony tickets to the best theater in the state and balcony is top premier seating for those 21 and older. it's definitely worth it. lol but i saw a post on twitter about this and told my friends. we started speculating that it would be either a whole new series of stories either telling of the magic war years before or of tales beyond the years of harry's days with his kids and then other's or even a whole new storyline with all new people. didn't expect something like this though. real interested to find out what all secrets will finally be shared. did sortof expect the ebooks stuff though. was rumored to be happening for the last few months so good thing it's finally happening.
@Rolyatkcinmai: dunno what? not feelin the whole i'm gonna add in more info to the story that i've been holding back all this time deal?
It's kinda going to be an interactive community so hopefully something will come of it!I like HP and all... But I dunno.
@suikoden352: Ha! Impressive! I'm kinda disappointed that it wasn't a new book (with nothing to do with the Harry Potter universe) that she was releasing. I'm still excited for this and will be at the early launch (hopefully I'll get in ;))
Looking forward to the final film just as much. I've had my tickets for the opening night in my local cinema booked for the opening night months now! Going to be fun!
Yeah I agree. Although a bit of background on SOME characters (and only some) would be interesting!@Rolyatkcinmai: dunno what? not feelin the whole i'm gonna add in more info to the story that i've been holding back all this time deal?
I like the fact that one can choose their house and win house points and so on.
There is still a lot left unsaid about the site but I presume that it will come in time! :)
This seema like a cool thing for the fans.
If you like the potter movies and live in Norway you might wanna go to oslo soon. One of the best theatres in oslo just announced the Harry Potterton. They're gonna show all the movies in a rowwith 20 minute breaks between them.
Thats 21 hours of potter!

An entire weeks build up for what is, in essence, an official wiki.
If I was a fan, I'd be pissed. But I'm not, and I find the entire series basically horseshit, so it doesn't bother me. Shame for the fanbase though. Why something decent can't have a fanbase like these (fairly poorly written) books, I don't know. It's a shame, makes me a little sad about literature, and it's state in the world.
And then Twilight happened, and that got way way worse.
But seriously - a wiki. Wow.
You aren't serious are you? No joke but the HP series are among the few modern classics! You have no idea what you're on about! Why something decent can't have a fanbase like these (fairly poorly written) books, I don't know.
@Bombs_Away: I'm getting old. But still love it! :D

Really now, if you don't like the books fine but as an avid reader that is BS those books are engaging and some of the Most Well Written books put out there, the books themselves even matured as the original readers did it got progressively darker and the characters went with it, you can hate em but Poorly written they are not.

Man, I read those books a shitload of times when they each came out. Now I listen to them on audiobook (with Stephen Fry) when I work, and it's pretty neat. Some of the magic (punned!?) has gone, but that's to be expected. Not sure about this whole thing, though. It's basically a glorified Wiki-site right?
Most people I know stopped caring about Harry Potter around the time the 4th movie came out.
Looking back on it, my frantic reading of the books some 4 years ago seems quite shitty now that I've started reading much better books.

I've read dozens of better books, but HP was the first book series I started reading out of my own free will (no school obligations). Only the first four books are ... good? They're ok. After that she got her fame and realized she could write anything at all and sell it. Potter 5 is so bad, it's almost unreadable. I understand your character is going through adolescence. But fucking capslock? Page after page of it?
@ShaggE said:That's what I'm talking about. The shard of mirror that Rowling kept swearing would build up to something, for instance. Yeah, it *kind of* did, but not really. Or Dumbledore's "glint of triumph" when dying. Nothing afterward made that line make sense. There weren't any. Those were just huge plot holes.@DeeGee said:
Oh god, I don't even remember offhand, haha.@ShaggE said:
Here's hoping she'll finally tie up all the loose ends she promised to reveal in the last book and never did.Which ones? : D
Things like that could have been explained satisfactorily in a sentence or two, but were just kind of handwaved away with a last-minute pseudo explanation instead.
I honestly think Rowling bit off more than she could chew with Harry Potter. I love the whole series, but she didn't have the experience necessary to write such a detailed world while keeping everything in check.
I don't understand the bashing either. Sure the later books got darker and got increasingly more convoluted, but they were brilliantly written at least. JK is a good author, well, she became one. The first three or so books are actually hard to read, it feels like something I'd find on a slash fiction website, it terms of writing skill.

@DeeGee: Brilliantly written? Book 5 was brilliantly written? Capslock Harry was a brilliant literary choice? Yes, I ABSOLUTELY THINK YOU ARE CORRECT! AND SO I'M GOING TO KEEP ON WRITING LIKE THIS. RWARG! I AM A BRILLIANT WRITER!!!!
RAWR LET'S FOCUS ON ONE THING FOR WHEN A CHARACTER IS SHOUTING AND NOT THE REST OF THE BOOK!!!21Q11SHIFT+ONE
EVEN YOU YOURSELF POINT OUT THE PLOT CONTRIVANCES. WHAT'S LEFT? CHARACTER? AS HAS BEEN POINTED OUT IN THIS THREAD ALREADY, SEVERAL IMPORTANT CHARACTER MOMENTS SEEMED TO HAVE NO POINT OR PURPOSE WITHIN THE STORY. THAT'S NOT BRILLIANT WRITING. SO NOT NARRATIVE OR CHARACTER. SO DESCRIPTION? I THINK YOU AND I CAN BOTH AGREE THERE SHE WAS LITTLE MORE THAN AVERAGE. SO WHY DEFEND HER, RWARG?
