Rorie is leaving Screened

Can't say I blame him at all. His Dark Souls review is by far the best written content on here. I hope GB can bring him on at least a freelance role. He desereves it.

So basically theres zero reason to go to screened then.

@Demoskinos: Pretty much. There's a post from BermanBraun that says they have some "exciting things" in the works. I'm not convinced, if Rorie isn't staying.

Really sad to see him go, but I'll be keeping a close eye on what he does. I really enjoyed everything he did on Screened, the Whiskey Media Happy hour and the Dark Souls stuff he did here and hope for the best in his future endeavors.

But yeah, zero reason to visit screened for now.. I'm not even a big movie fan (really only watch comic book movies :P ), just went there for Rorie..

That's really sad. The fact that the Whiskey family has disbanded still stings.

I do hope he joins Giant Bomb if that is something he would want to do. He's quite an awesome dude. I think I remember him saying he never wanted to write things about video games again for a job again on a Happy Hour at one point, but I may be delusional.

I absolutely loved his appearance on Tested's Octoberkast after being out all fucking night clubbing like a motherfucking rock star.

It is a shame. I felt so bad for Matt, as he was the odd man out when everything went down. Alex joined Giant Bomb and Comic Vine to their move to CBSi, Tested got a brand spanking new site with lots of new stuff, but Screened was just stuck out in limbo.

I will follow him wherever he heads to, if it is still a writing gig.

I would like him to at lease join in the bombcast once... continuing the trend of laid off people coming on the podcast!

He'll still be using the forums just like everybody else. :P

Nah I mean during the whole deal when Whiskey's corpse got picked over. Tested's new sugar daddies are those two ass-clowns from Mythbusters, Giant Bomb took Comic Vine home to meet the parents, and Screened got the shaft. Rorie has been working that place like a machine for the better part of a year now, and he got virtually no support in the process. It just feels like he got left out in the cold. I figured this would be happening as soon as Alex ditched the site, but it's a shame to see a guy who obviously works himself that hard get screwed over by bad circumstances.

I'm not blaming any one person here, it just seems like in the end Screened was expendable. It's shitty.

I feel like the writing was on the wall based on the fact that Rorie's done absolutely nothing since BermanBraun took over and Screened has been left to languish.

I teared up listening to the ST:E theme in that article. It was like the last I would ever see of him.

I literally have no interest in Screened anymore. Rorie and Alex were the reasons I went there. It doesn't matter what new faces they bring in. They can't grab my attention with it like Rorie and Alex did. They offered a look at films from a FAN'S perspective, not just some stuffy critic shit or some blogger shit. Without them, I just don't even care.

With that said, I just hope that my Pale Rider page lives on. I put a lot of fucking time in that goddamn thing.

This sucks and was totally expected. Rorie was acting weird and seemed sort of sad after the news. I guess Tested is the only site worth visiting now.

The Screened saga is the saddest in the history of Whiskey Media. It's a shame someone who put such sweat into keeping that site going was, in the end, viewed as expendable. I hope he pops up on this site from time to time.

@FlemmingM: That might have been what he was talking about, but I took it as just writing about games in general. It's been a long time since then though, so I don't quite remember exactly what he said and he could have changed his mind by now anyways. Like I said though, I hope he gets to do whatever makes him happy. He definitely deserves it; he worked hard for Screened.

yep... I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way but the only reason I went to Screened was because of Rorie. (and Alex) I like their writing. There are plenty of other movie sites.

I'll see how the new site turns out tho.

That's a real shame. With the old Whiskey sites having been largely built around the personalities behind them, a big part of the site has really died here. Perhaps the new management will have some great plans for the site, but I'm sceptical. I hope wherever Rorie ends up, he'll be doing what he wants.

Honestly as cool as Screened was I would of hated to see Rorie stick around on his own as a new company takes over, I think he made the right choice to get out now, hopefully someone will snatch him up.

Also, don't have much reason to visit the site anymore since Rorie was the only real draw. Also I feel bad for thinking this, but the image used for the Bermanbraun article rubs me the wrong way, like they agonized over what image would appeal to the community the most...but like I said earlier, it's probably just because I'm a shitty person.

Yeah, I can't say this is a surprise. Since the announcement of the buyout, it's been clear something was up. It's a real shame though, I loved his work on Screened and he was always fantastic with the Giantbomb guys. I already miss the Whiskey Media days.

I'm definitely following him on twitter though, hopefully things work out for him. He really deserves to do well.

None. BermanBraun is (presumably) bringing in an all new team.

The fact that I amassed over 200,000 wiki points on Screened makes me kind of sick to my stomach now. What a waste. Hope Rorie lands on his feet and hope whatever is planned for Screened fails.

Yep, removed my screened bookmarks and unfollowed them wherever I could. I'll be where ever Matt is.

I would love to see him picked up by CBSi for Giant Bomb, but that seems like too much of a stretch.

I do not like this. I'll keep on eye on Screened to see what happens to it but it won't be the same without him.
