The best music streaming service just got released in the US and I happen to have 30 invites to share. PM me with your email and I'll send an invite your way.
Spotify released in the US!
@Mikemcn: Unless your willing to subscribe to it at a premium i wouldn't bother. What this guy said. You only get to listen to a song a maximum 5 times unless you subscribe to a premium account.
No. not in the least.Music... streaming? Is that like Bit torrent?
Basically, they have a huge repository of artists and their tracks that you can listen to without having to download the albums. You just search for the artist/album/track in the program and voila, hopefully it'll be there (probably will unless you search for some super obscure stuff). Completely legal.
Also for the people talking about Premium. I feel it's worth the money I pay for it, for what you get in return.
I've used Spotify free since it came out in 2008 and it's fine. I don't use it for the majority of my music listening, but if get a random urge to listen to some songs you don't own, it's perfect. But if you plan on using it for the majority of your music needs, you'll want premium.
I love it. The new restrictions do mean it's not quite as good as it used to be, but it's still good for checking out all sorts of random shit you're not sure about to see if you like it. Chances are if you really want to listen to something more than 5 times it probably wouldn't kill you to just buy it. I use it reasonably often and haven't come close to hitting the 10 hours per month cap yet. I find the interface to be much better than iTunes too, which I know isn't particularly hard but still.

If you want more information about Spotify. But it's basically like Wired said, a magical iTunes where you already own all the music. It has around 13 million tracks, which is larger than any of its competitors and the social network integration is pretty good.
Premium is the way to go,
For the price of one to two albums per month you have access to over 15 million songs .
Not sure how playlist sharing among contintents work due to region restrictions and varying available content but here are some good playlists to begin with. If you like them just press the subscribe button in spotify. Also check the users who created the playlists for more playlists that you might like.

I tried out spotify last night and i'm gonna pass on it. It doesn't do anything particularly different from all the music services i already use
It doesn't really do anything new. The buzz around it is kind of confusing to me. What exactly makes it different from Zune pass? Or even the Napster client that came out like five years ago with a subscription?
I have been using it for a day or two now and I am in love. I signed up for a premium account because the 10 hour restriction and the lack of access to the iPhone app both seemed like things I wouldn't be able to live without. Love it.
I've been using Spotify since 2009 and it's amazing. I've found so much new music through it. Since they nerfed the free mode I've bought Unlimited and this month I bought Premium to take a bunch of music on holiday with me.
For people who don't know what it is: Imagine your windows media player had all of your local tracks, as well as millions of other tracks at 320kbps quality. That's basically spotify.

So its british pandora?.
Not really. It's Swedish, and you can play whatever you want, whenever you want it.
I got two invites if anyone want to try it out:

First come, first serve!
Use it mostly on my iPhone 4, and just recently bought Premium when they nrefed the free version back in april-may. Didn't really use it that much when I first got it (some weeks after release in norway), but I grew rather attached to it after a while. Now I mostly use to find new music and artists.
My playlist: AltF4 Everything from darkstep via clasical music to extreme metal to modern rock and pop.
Spotify+Iphone= pure LOLS.
I've had a premium account for a while now and I use it all the time. I think there is probably a lot more options in the states, but if you don't already have a music streaming option you should definitely check this out.
Uh, I have a free account, and I don't have any of these restrictions folks are talking about. I've listened to all of my songs like, 20+ times at least, and I'm up to something like 300 hours this month of use.
Maybe these restrictions are only in the UK, where it has been released for some time?

Already have zune pass, love that to death but im guessing this is similar?
Yes, except you can't sync music with your zune, only iDevices.
However, if you pay the $10\mo for the Premium version, you can stream on your phone, so that more or less made my Zune's obsolete since I now had all of my music on my phone.
I used to really like Zune Pass, but it seems like every time I would sync my zune, a couple of albums would no longer be syncable (zune would say it no longer had the rights to play them). I would be able to readd some of them to my collection via the marketplace but that became a pain in the ass to keep doing everytime I synced my devices. Giving Spotify a try to see if that works better for me.
Btw, if anyone needs an invite to the free service, let me know.
I prefer buying my own music instead of putting money down the drain, thank you very much. I like the idea of streaming movies on Netflix, but I listen to a song way more times than I watch a movie so paying to stream music is not the same for me.What? I think you might be misunderstanding the service spotify provides. It lets you stream their enormous library of music to your computer without having to purchase it first. I don't understand your complaints.

It really depends on how you discover music. Music that I really like I still purchase, but I use Spotify to try new things out. If I hear a hear of a new album\band that I think I might like, I'll listen to it a few times on Spotify, and if I really like it, I'll buy it. If not, I can still leave it in a Spotify playlist and listen to it every so often.
@believer258 said:There are some major limits in the free accounts, limits that aren't on something like, say, Youtube, where I can look up pretty much any song that was made in a studio and listen to it there as many times as I want for free. So it isn't handy for new music. I'm not paying for it because I can put that money towards albums I will own and can listen to anytime, anywhere, without ever being charged again for it. So what is its worth again?I prefer buying my own music instead of putting money down the drain, thank you very much.
